I am now 15 nearly 16 and wear tena pull-ups to bed each evening as I wet during the night by accident, I seem to be becoming a heavier wetter and the pull-ups leak most nights and wet my sheets. My Mum is now getting fed up with washing my sheets each morning although I do have a plastic mattress protector on the bed. Mum has said she will look into getting me some adult sized disposable nappies, I'm not keen on the idea of nappies, if I wear these nappies will I have to wear plastic pants as I really don't want to wear them too they seem babyish. She said that washable nappies may be an option and cheaper in the long run, I have been a bedwetter all my life but the idea of wearing nappies is gross. Anyone in a similar situation.

Hi Emily i wet the bed two and have all my life. Wearing nappies is not all that bad once you get used to them. I wear tena slip maxi and they come in Xsmall small meduim and large. I wear these only i don't need plastic pants don't even need plastic sheets on the bed i can sleep knowing that my nappy will be fine in the morning.

Emily, what is really important is that you just accept it. There is nothing wrong with it at all. I understand some of your fear, but not all of it. I suggest you talk with your mother about your fears. Your mother is the best person to talk to as she is going to love you regardless of the decision you make. If you do talk to your mom, make sure you sound mature and sure of yourself. It will give her the idea that you are confident in yourself, which makes for a better conversation. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope my advice helps.

Hi Emily
I am almost 17, but like you I am a life long bedwetter, and guess what I wore pullups too untill like you I had a lot of leaks mainly due to me sleeping on my side. My mother decided disposables was the next step so that is what I wore to bed for 6 months or so, they were not perfect and I still leaked not as much though. It was me who tried to convince my mum that terry toweling may be better due to the fact it's less harmfull for the envioroment, I guess they are a bit on the babyish side but who wil know at the end of the day except imediate family, unless your mum is like mine and without thinking pegs your nappies on the washing line for the world to see. I nearly had kittens (LOL). Back to the subject I have been wearing terry nappies for 18 months or so now and have only ever had 1 instance of leaking, but you must bare in mind that love or hate em plastic pants are not an option they are essential if you are to wear terry nappies, and remember you are not the only one of your age in nappies there must be lots of us. There is nothing you can do to avoid wetting at night so just go with it and wear what works best for you. Hope all goes well let us know how you get on. |

Hi Emily. Although I am now in my 60's, I can empathise with your dilema. I was a bed wetter well into my teens and I did not have the choice of disposable pads and was in terry nappies every night till around 15 when I gradually became dry at night but after the birth of my son it reappeared. I then had a recurring urinary tract infection that managed to severly damage my kidneys and left me totaly incontinent. I found that the disposable pads available from the NHS were not bad if I slept on my back all night but were totaly hopless when on my side and I went back to using terry towelling and plastic pants. Yes it does seem childish but I learned that it doesn't matter what I think or others think, if it works and helps cut down the ammount of laundry and lets you get a full nights sleep then it is worth it. I know, looking back on my childhood and teenage years, I would have been mortified if anyone outside of my imediate family knew of my problem, but I have found that if you have a loving family around you, bed wetting or incontinence, is not a big problem, just a fact of life. |

Hi i have turned fourteen and have started to wet the bed and have acidents during the day so far only my parents and girlfriend know what should i do as i dont want my friends at school to know about my problem
|
You must be a different Emily I take it from the one who posted on Monday, If you can conceal your day accidents witha bit of luck only your parents and friend need know, I only left school last year and I leaked alot somtimes quite a bit, so I wore terry toweling knickers with plastic knickers over them for a while and was excused games lessons. With a bit of luck over the school summer holiday you can get over your bladder problems at leat during the day. I really do hope your problem sorts it's self out, I've been there and got the tee-shirt peeing your pants uncontrolably is no fun, good luck. |

Hello peoples Im the Emily who started this last monday, well after further discussion with mum we decided I should try cloth toweling nappies, so mum odered them along with large nappy pins and of course those horrid plastic pants.
Saturday morning arrived and so did a delivery van with a parcel for me, I can,t say I was extatic with excitment. There were 5 nappies and 3 pairs of pants, as it reccomended the nappies be washed before wearing my mum set to and washed them, Lucky for me my mum did'nt put them on the washing line like yours did Holly no she put mine on the clothes airer in our conservatory,(flippin nearly as bad) 2 lots of neighbours can see our consevatory, I may just be parranoid it. 9 oclock saturday night I've just had my bath there are 5 clean dry neatly folded nappes in my room waiting for me, I suppose it was with some trepidation that I picked one up, it was then I realised that I had'nt a flippin clue how to put a nappy on, after 10 minutes of folding and messing with it I called to mum to come upstairs. Mum demonstrated hw it should go and the done a trial run and put it on me over my pyjamas. In the end Mum put it on me properly and started to pull the platic pants up over my new bulky underwear, still don't like plastic pants but now I have no option but to wear them. I got into bed and because of the huge bulk between my legs I could not sleep and turned this way and that, by 6 oclock sunday morning I'd given up trying for sleep. Mum asked me how i'd got on and almost seemed dissapointed my nappy was still dry. Sunday being a nice day I got a sun lounger out and set it up under a large tree in our garden in the shade. Being knackered I fell aslep and woke up wet! tipical. Sunday night and I did manage to put my own nappy on this time, once again no sleep for me another dry nappy in the morning. This evening monday night I had an early night being tired fell fast asleep an wet myself. It is now 02:05 am on tuesday morning and hve just put my 2nd dry nappy on so lets hope I can sleep and still be dry in the morning Thanks peoples for your advice. |

Well said Dorothy, i'm also in my 60's and wear terry nappies and plastic pants virtualy 24/7, sometimes due to work trips etc., i wear a disp but still wear plastic pants with them, I agree with you, disp are OK if I sleep on my back, else they will leak, hence bedtime nappies are the terry ones. Cheers Nappyboy |

Hi Terry. Can I ask you what disposables do you wear? I have triead all sorts and brands. |

Hi Dorothy, I wear abena x-plus, but thats only for work trips, I mainly wear terry nappies and plastic pants thats what I wore as a kid. My e-mail is diaperedknight@yahoo.com Cheers Terry |

Hello Emily. A little tip here you know what I did to help me get used to them, I put a nappy on as soon as I came in from school, and at weekends too. You must be on school holiday at the moment this is a good time to get used to them as you could wear one all day, my guess is youll soon get used to them, and you'll find they are not so bad after all. chances are though I recon you will need more tha 5 nappies as getting them washed and dried in the winter is not as swift as it is in the summer. |

You are right Holly I have now been in nappies for a couple days to get used to them, This has been giving me a better nights sleep, but I am wetting more as Im awake less so less chances to go to the toilet.
Mum has now sent away for another pack of 5 nappies 42x42 inches, as she feels you were right about needing more nappies, I thought I would feel babyish but I was just a bit paranoid if that is the right word. Im totally at ease about wearing nappies now although I would rather not have to wear them, This is turning into a blog more than a forum for me. |

Better than not having any advice at all, right? Glad that you have figured it out.:) |

Hello Emily do you still visit this forum?
If you do, How are you getting on with your terry nappies now? or have you given up on them, hope not, as if you persevere they do seem better in the long run. Be nice to hear from you if you do still come by here, Thanks Holly. |

Yep i'm still around, Im used to my toweling nappies now, I still don't like them that much though, I would have alot of wet beds without them, I have had my nappy come almost off a couple of times in my sleep so wet the bed those nights. My mum saw some teeshirts with poppers at the crotch on the drylife site so now I have 3 of those aswell, It wasn't until I saw them I realised that it was like a baby vest, I'm sure she don't want me to grow up.
Hope you get this and we can talk again Emily. |
