Our M.D. tells us that calcium alone will not replace the bone loss in osteoporosis cases.
What he didn't tell us was that Dolommite is a natural, perfect blend of calcium and magnesuim, which, when taken in daily supplements of at least 1200 MB or more, in combination with the mineral Strontium salts,(600-700 Mg daily, on an empty stomach), may increase bone mass in the vertebrae of people with osteoporosis. There is research that Strontium has been shown to promote strong ostoporosis-resistant bones. A member of my family is taking the above daily. The latest study in the british medical Journal has shown that calsium supplements do nothing to build stronger bones. That story was in the paper yesterday so I am sure it would be easy to find if you went to their site.

i have heard that the best absorbable calcium is an asporotate. Also I am taking Strontium citrate 2 times 340mg at nite.

I've read about that. What I give my patients is a calcium blend containing other minerals that have been shown to increase bone density and quality. Results have been impressive. http://naturalwomanshealth.com/Osteoporosis/... |

I have been diagnosed with osteopenia with my femurs on the verge of osteoporosis. Have tried Actonyl (several doses) and most recently Boniva (one dose). These meds did cause gastric upset (I have ulcers). I do want to try AlgaeCal and wondered if anyone else has had good results on the supplement. |

True, calcium/magnesium does help with strenthening the bones, but other things factor in also. The number one thing that really can affect your bones and back pain is eating too much sugar. It depletes the body of vitamins and minerals. It also affects the absorption of calcium and magnesium.

By the way, in terms of osteoporosis, there is more than just calcium that is necessary for bone health. The following are just as important:
Vitamin D Boron Magnesium Phosphorus Plus, women are also recommended to keep exercising, especially weight-bearing exercise that provides any resistance-type of exercise (light weights, pilates, etc) to help the bones keep their mass and prevent osteoporosis. This is especially true for women over 50, or any women that have undergone menopause, as that is the high risk time for this condition. To understand what conventional and alternative treatment there are for this condition, look at the link below (sorry but you cant buy anything on this site, it's only information): http://www.vitalhealthzone.com/health/conditi... Dolomite is an inferior form of calcium and, if you research Strontium, you'll learn that it must be taken inbetween the consumption of calcium supplements. My bottle of strontium also directs this. STrontium is used in Europe for the treatment of osteoporosis. Good forms of calcium are citrate and hydroxapatite. Remember equal amounts of magnesium should be taken with calcium supplements. Other nutrients that help with calcium absorption are silica, boron, D3 and Vit. K1 and 2. |

Too much vitamin A is not good either. There's a good summary of this issue at www.vitaminA.org .
