The thing quoted in that blog seem to be very much like war-mongering, but seriously, Autism Speaks in cooperation with CAN have never done anything big to help autistic people - They've just spreaded nasty pity propoganda like this:

Here's an interesting video about Cure Autism Now:

I don't much care for many of Autism Speaks TV commercials- or that particular blogger. but fact remains- it all keeps autism in the mainstream public, and no one ever all agrees on one thing. it's a rare thing when they do.

really, generally peoples perception of autism never needed the help of CAN or Autism Speaks. the perspective and sterotyping has always been there for many many years prior. I myself do not see any of these things affecting my child directly and most parents I speak with of typical kids never have seen the commercials or the youtubes. these things generally are only paid attention to those within the autism community and that's just about the only ones it annoys.

Well they must've done something if people who learn their autism diagnosis begin to believe that they are obliged to not have children. I wonder if the "it was like experiencing a death in the family" reaction to parents have become more common aswell. So well, yes, it first of all affects the autism and autistic community.

Recently a local autism group decided to have a separate walk from the Autism Speaks walk because they didn't want the money to go away into research rather than helping autism families today:

yea, I heard that debate before- along with a few other's when it comes to Autism Speaks and also read aaaaall about the tax returns. prior to Autism Speaks however, very little was ever on TV about autism. I only disagree with their ads, but I also disagree with other organizations ads as well, but my opinion is Autism Speaks does not promote not having children that I have ever seen in the USA, that may be how some people view those video's though. I think over all Autism Speaks is a great Org.

Out of what they have done?

It is positive that they bring autism families together, but the goal to "give hope for a cure to parents of autistic children" is just nauseating.

It really does seem that it has been less of a taboo to say offensive things about one's children.

My problem with the wish to cure autism is:

1. I think it is unlikely the best way we can try to help autistics today

2. The marketting is for a fact offensive to people on the spectrum

As seen in the video I posted, alot of the money from the advertisement campaigns go to the pockets of those running the organisations while most of the rest goes to genetic research, what the hell do we need genetic research for?

Autism Speaks has raised alot of anger, it's nothing to joke about.

yea, well if a person wants to spend alot of time defending any one Org. or bashing them, more power to ya's. there is but a zillion that all claim something. most people are upset any money is going to genetic and not vaccine causes- that's a fact, and that's what splits the autism community.
people base the bash on what the Org is based on.

many parents however want answer's as to why, and wanting them happens to be very human, and nothing at all wrong with wanting answer's to the why's of autism. knowing this may not lead to cure, but could lead to better interventions.

people are donating money- let the IRS worry about where that money goes- I have better things to do really.

I think the public should know more of the truth so that they could give money to the right thing.
