Study finds link between birth order and asthma symptoms

Why do we hear about asthma so much? It seems to be so much more prevalent than it ever used to be.

Maybe because of more SLOW news days? The 24/7 news outlets are looking for filler stories? Someone like ALGORE is invested heavily in that section of the drug industry?

Wow, CO2 causes asthma. Now that is a news story.

Birth order has nothing to do with asthma, it's air pollution, cigarettes, car emissions, air planes, pollen, mold, and all other pollutants in our air. I'm # 5 of 10 children. Almost all of the siblings have allergies/asthma. Get real scientists.

My parents started to smoke heavily after the first 2, and I was the first...(hee)

The ozone layer is being depleted by hydroflorocarbons and the pollution is getting worse because of China. Of course the later child is going to have worse health. This is all part of the environmental problems that are going on. No big surprise to me!

Asthma can be genetic and they say that it passes from one generation to the other usually from a mother to a son and to the son's female off spring, etc. (or father to a daughter, etc.) Some scientists say that the obcession Americans have of bathing children to the extreme and spraying everything with germacide causes children to never aquire natural resisstance to ordinary bacteria. Mother Nature is always right, and the hucksters of Madison Avenue have helped create this problem.

Just beacuse it shows a slight correlation dosnt mean much. There are too many factors that go into the development of asthma to really put much into this "research".

It seems that first children are always seen as "perfect" in the way they are and the things they do. Often when examined by someone who has an objective, reality based point of view, first borns are NOT ALL THAT PEOPLE CLAIM THAT THEY ARE!

For over 40 years I have heard and seen all of these great stories about first children. MUCH OF IT IS LIES, pushed by family members who are not telling the truth. By the time second/third children come along, parents, grandparents, teachers and doctors,etc. are BORED TO DEATH OF ALL OF IT, and treat other children as a burden and defective.

Also, people tend to remember things quite different then they actually were.
In my family, my relatives claim that the oldest child did the following things:

Was an EAGLE BOY SCOUT. In reality, they paid a group of younger children to do 99% of the public service project required to get "Eagle" status. They also were not completely honest about other "corners that were cut" to get the kid other scout ranks.

That the child single handed dug out 18-20 tons of dirt, from behind a retaining wall. In reality the kid had help from 5 people to take down a retaining wall, and then his parents hired a construction company to remove the dirt with huge earth moving equipment and 2 dump trucks.(I had to find the receipt/cancelled check for the construction company to PROVE IT. Everyone STILL DENIED IT! I then asked the neighbor, who had complained for a decade about the noise/etc. and THEN THEY WERE FORCED INTO REALITY ABOUT THE DIRT!

They claimed that the first child is their caretaker, and devotes his life to his relatives. In reality, the hoodlum tried to get his younger brothers to give up any inheritence when they were about 9 and 11 years old. I had to stop the con man. Then the first born tried to file fake tax forms for his parents, while NOT PAYING TAXES THAT WERE OWED. I had to stop this. The first child also conspired with a stock broker to steal his parents stocks (churning the account). I had to catch him and stop him. So THEN HIS IDIOT MOTHER GAVE HIM HALF OF HER ASSETS, IN A WAY THAT NO ONE COULD STOP HIM!

I have a million more stories, about many other families (I help law enforcement, as a volunteer). They ALWAYS PRAISE THE FIRST BORN, and they (parents/neighbors/doctors/pol ice/etc.) RARELY HAVE ANY SENSE OF THE TRUTH UNTIL YOU FORCE IT ON THEM. IT IS IN THEIR DELUSIONS!!!

Agree with the point that more news is available may be a part of the reason.

All first children I know picked on the 2nd and third children especially if they were treated rough by parents. The parents and the sibling drove younger ones crazy. So if they do better it is because they stress the younger ones. They can
talk and the others can't. They grabbed toys from them and said they were crying for theirs. All games played were theirs. It was easily stopped but was ignored by parents. All children should be viewed in a objective way and monitered. That study is balony.

It is sad when a child developes asthma or diabetes. I know that it is not caused by our contributions to the atmosphere or water contamination. The effected children were getting sick long before the industrial revolution. Like heart disease and cancer. Stop blaming the time period and start looking for answers. Narrow time line fools.

When I was about five years old, I developed
what the Dr. thought was hayfever, but, turned
out later to be asthma. Lived up high in the
Cascade mts. in Washington state, where the air
was clean, didn't matter, still couldn't breathe.
Turned out, it was pollen, that was causing
the problem. By the way, I was the first-born.

my nephew is the youngest and has asthma. he has 3 elder sisters.

i am the youngest and i have 9 elder brothers and sisters. thank you God, i don't have asthma. but i am gay though. he he he

I didn't know there was a school for mailmen.
