I have been looking around for an Alupent replacement. Albuterol variants do not work for me in any comparable fashion. I've read several research articles stating that it should but my own experience and PFTs prove this out with my RTs and pulmonologist.

I am hoping it's out there somewhere and I've just failed at finding it. Any advice guys?

I have been looking around for an Alupent replacement myself. right now there is nothing that can help like alupent. I have a few more canisters and I pray that the drug companies do something to help us.

I found out today that there is an oral version of Metaproterenol available still. I haven't tried these and haven't found a manufacturer yet but at least I know they can be obtained.

I'll be talking with my Dr's about it next week and see if I can get a few for trial. I'll post after I've been able to try them out.

It's sad but the Albuterol via nebulizer isn't doing half as good as my old CFC laden Alupent inhalers.=(

Here, I thought I was the only one with this problem! I've been using my beloved Alupent for 20 years and have only half of my last inhaler left and am only allowing myself to use it when I'm completely out of air. I wish they would stop telling me that albuterol does the same thing - it clearly doesn't!:(

I couldn't agree more. Have an appointment next Thursday to discuss the tablet form and will update here after some experience with it.

I have been looking for a replacement for my Alupent. I used the last of it last fall. My doctor gave me Xopenex...didn't do anything, actually felt worse. Every Spring and Fall I get a sinus infection that goes to my chest and I take a antibiotic...no problem and usually if any distress use my Alupent. This year had some distress and used the Xopenex, made it worse and finally went into an asthmatic state that I could not break. Hadn't happened for 8 years that I had my Alupent. Called the doctor he had to give me additional cortizone to my advair...alvesco. He also gave a new inhaler - Ventolin, did help some but nothing like the Alupent. A week later and I am still wheezing...

Any help would be welcome...even if anyone knows where to find any Alupent.

I called the company that made Alupent and they recommended Maxair. Haven't tried it yet as I got plenty of reinforcements before January. Will let you know how it works. Proventil and other inhalers don't work for me either.

I just picked up the MaxAir inhaler yesterday, becuase I also am in the same predicament as you folks. No more alupent, which is the only rescue inhaler that EVER worked for me as well. I used the MaxAir last night, but it had no immediate affect like the alupent did. I fear I will be visiting the ER now that this atrocity has taken it's hold on me, which I have not been to the ER for almost 20 years cuz the alupent has ALWAYS saved me before. How despicable that they think by eliminating this obviously desperately needed CFC inhaler is going to impact the ozone in a positive manner. All the while, factories, buses, cars, the list could go on and on, continue to destory the ozone worse than even a 100 million CFC inhaler ever possibly could. I am so livid that we have to suffer due to this inconceivable approximation is a good idea.
Cant they just substitute the CFC propellant with something else??? Seriously, how hard could it be?.........God help us all!
