their are a lot of people that say it works it's been proven in studies some say it's a gateway drug i've met a lot of poeple that didn't start with pot they started with tabacco or alcahol long before they tried harder drugs than pot. how many people have been killed do to driving drunk or robbed to support someones meth or coke habbit. and they say if you smoke pot your funding terror make it legal allow them to grow it here tax it. no money leaves the country therefor on terrorist gets paid

That was a bulldog tactic for the Senator. Not looking good for him. Decriminalize! I didn't say legalize. The difference is no jail time for marijuana charges. I'll have this video uploaded on youtube soon. This tactic of politicians shutting sick people up needs some attention.

We need to outlaw all forms of Alcohol in Oklahoma. That way we can force everyone to go out of state and get their alcohol, or go to bootleggers. Then we can give up the tax revenue on alcohol. It has been tried, did not work. The potential tax revenue on marijuana is enormous. People get mariuana wherther it is legal or not, just like they got alcohol when it was illegal. This wont change, no matter what Mark Woodward thinks or wants. More people die from Alcohol abuse than all illegal drugs put together. There is no documented case where anyone has ever overdosed or died from marijuana.

Some day we will drag our backward legislators and ignorant regulators like Mark Woodward into the 21st century. Sadly we will probably be the last State to address this issue.

Has anyone figured out what the Native Americans were smoking in those peace pipes?

I can be prescribed all kinds of narcotics for my chronic, severe pain. I can be prescribed all kinds of medications to deal with the side effects of the narcotics. But I can not take one simple compound that will alleviate my pain and require no additional medications to go along with it. Yes, I can see why it's such a difficult decision. (Read last line with propper dripping of sarcasm.) Merck and the other pharmasudical companies stand to make very little profit from me if medical marajuana is allowed. That's the sole reason. Don't let anyone fool you into believing that there is any other sound reason other than that.

"I've heard this same story repeated over and over," Woodward said. "It does tend to be a gateway drug for many people. It opens a door and puts them on a path that often leads to other places."

He says the issue of legalizing marijuana for medical use sends the wrong message, that pot is okay.

Sen. Aldridge agrees.

"I just don't think it's something that's good for the state as a whole," Sen. Aldridge said."

It's funny that they say that is is a gateway drug when the 2 largest gateway drugs (Alcohol and Tobacco) are pretty much right over the counter. I guess Pot just needs some stronger lobbyists to pay them off before it becomes legal.

Aldridge is a hypercritical tool. Says he didn't know enough about the issue, but it is clear he does have an opinion. Its apparent he doesn't have enough backbone to state his opinion without law enforcement around to intimidate his constituents!!!

Society is best served by shifting the existing psychotic ideology based on bias, ignorance, prejudice, and punishment towards effective prevention and treatment in order to reduce the awful burden that the untreated disease of substance use disorder (a mental illness) places on our budgets ...and our citizens.

If Woodward had his way, would he criminalize Morphine, Oxycontin, or Codeine? The argument against marijuana for medical uses is simply ignorance speaking. There is absolutely no logic in picking and choosing which drugs you criminalize. Compared to some of the legal drugs out their, marijuana is very non-addictive.

Well, there is nothing wrong with it. This is another reason I hate oklahoma. This conservative bullcrap. If you drink alcohol and you say pot is bad then you are a hypocrit. Alcohol should be illegal not pot. Its only a gateway because ignorant people choose to go the wrong direction. Alcohol is responsible for so many deaths. If anything should be illegal its alcohol. Thats a true fact! What about cigarettes? What about diet pills and pain killers? All these things that are legal and pot isn't? This country and especially this state is a freakin joke. Doesn't the goverment realize that if they legalized it and taxed it in full that it would solve way more than a third of the economy crisis. We have ignorant people running our country. Instead they would rather waste taxpayers money on the drug war. Its such a waste because they will never win and it won't end. I could type forever about this. There is something wrong with Oklahoma. I can't wait to move to California or Oregon and its happening in the near future. Im so excited! I hope for the sake of whats right that medical marijuana will be available for people here soon.

I hope you will work very hard to get this person unseated: the best way to change things is to get someone who is pro-medical marijuana to run for office against him. Even if you don't have the funding to win, you can have an effect by educating him on the issue and possibly getting him to soften his stance. If nothing else, your pro-marijuana stance will get you some free press and make mmj part of the public conversation.

Senator Cliff Aldridge (R) should be ashamed of himself. It is not what he feels is right for our state it is the people of Oklahoma. Put medical use marijuana up on the ballet and let Oklahomans determine what is good for Oklahoma.

Could we expect anything else from Mark Woodward other than against any use of marijuana? It might affect his budget if we passed medical use or decriminalized marijuana.

The only reason marijuana could be potentially a gateway to other drugs is you have to purchase from a criminal that probably sells other drugs. If you could go to a clinic or state store to purchase then there would be no tie to crime or other drugs.

These individuals have a very narrow view; we should not forget this come next election.

If that's Woodward arguement, I would eat him alive in a debate. The brainwashing is not working anymore, Mark Woodward. To Mr. Aldridge, you better recognize that people are tired of being ignored by you people. YOU DO WORK FOR US!

HA! what i think is quite funny about this is they said legalizing medical marijuana would send the wrong message, that pot is okay.. So, alcohol and cigarettes are? look at the death tolls people. I'm so tired of the conservative bible belt lunatics in this state. As a state we are so far behind, anyone that says marijuana is bad and that it is a gateway drug is simply uneducated and narrow minded. Everyone knows that Oklahoma has one of the largest meth problems across the US. If someone is going to start using narcotics other than marijuana that is genuinely bad for them, they will regardless of marijuana being legalized for medical use. Quit using the gateway excuse people, alcohol and cigarettes kill more than any drug!

The drug companies could make money from it if they grew it for medical reasons and paid the taxes in each state in which they grew it.Look at the other 14 states and the procedures that they are using. Oklahoma is controlled by hypocrites that use thier religious "beliefs" in an attempt to justify thier own actions.Alcohol is far more dangerous, prescription drugs are abused at an alarming rate and those in control are worried about something that is natural, non-violate(except maybe for growers hiding in the woods0, which could be taken care of by licenseing certain amount of "growers" for medical marijuana. This will be the last state to take the next logical step as with cock fighting, tatooing and so on. Oklahoma prides itself in holding out and staying in the 1800's

I think that the Drug War causes corruption and makes things worse. The cops are addicted to the money and items seized, as well as their need to control people. The cops get a great deal of money to fight drugs, which are easier to target than going after rapists, murderers, and thieves. Dealers stay in business by bribing cops and snitching out the competition. When it comes to drugs, we need more education and less incarceration. If you drink alcohol, take pharmaceuticals, drink coffee, or use tobacco and think that marijuana should be illegal, then I think you are a hypocrite. There are worse effects from legal drugs than marijuana. I do not feel that anybody has the right to tell me what I can ingest, as long as I am not infringing on someone else’s rights. Marijuana and hemp have much to gives us industrially, medically, and spiritually, if we let them.
