Wife did too, after 4 days bowel started moving again. Doc said if not by 5 days, must take more drastic measures. Milk of Magnesia as directed helped.

I had mine removed on Saturday. I'm still in pain and it took about 4 days before I passed a bowel. I'm down, still in pain and irritated... It could be worse, right?

I want to go dancing and work out - ugh!

Didn't have a bowel movement for about 3 days. I was in the hospital for 5 days, and was dancing my heart out 3 days after I was released.

Do how you feel right.

Wow, you guys must either be real young and heal fast, or have a very high tolerance for pain. I had my appendix removed 12 days ago and I am still in a lot of pain. Lots of bloating. Nights are horrible, can't sleep because of pain on right side. Has anyone else had these symptoms? How long did they last? I thought having my appendix removed was going to make me feel better, not worse.

I had mine out 2 weeks ago and still have pain that comes and goes. The whole bowel movement thing is due partly to pain medication and I think Anestitia (sp?). I was told to not lift anything 15lbs. and over for a month. So I'm sure it takes at least that to heal on the inside. I had laproscopic surgery. I know a nurse and she said during that specific procedure they blow your stomach up w/gas so that they can see what they are doing and get in there. She said it can move things around and sometimes make u feel bruised all over. Just take it easy everyone, I know it's hard, trust me, but we don't want to end up there again!!:)

I HAD MY APPENDIX TOOK OUT LAST SUNDAY, MINE ACTUALLY HAD RUPTURERD, I HAD ALOT OF INFECTION THE DOCTOR SAID, I HAD 2 DRAINS OR SMALL BAGS HANGING FROM MY STOMACH, DRAINING THE INFECTION OUT, I JUST COME HOME ON THE 21ST OF NOV. I AM REALLY SORE AMD MY BACK HURTS REALLY BAD, DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE BACK PAINS. I STILL HAVE A COUPLE OF STICHES IN ONE OF THE INCISIONS. I GO IN A COUPLE OF DAYS TO GET THEM REMOVED. IT IS VERY DIFFCULT TO GET AROUND WITHOUT WALKING HUNCHED OVER, AND IT HURTS TO BEND OVER, BUT FROM READING ALL OF YOUR POST I GUESS THAT IS NORMAL, SO THANKS FOR THE INFO, AND GET WELL TO EVERYONE!!!!

Husband had appendectomy Sunday night, Came home Monday, went for a 350km round trip drive on Tuesday, and wanted sex Wednesday night. He took painkillers twice on Monday and Tuesday, and once on Wednesday.(he didn't get sex, I was concerned it may cause more damage.) He doesn't seem to feel pain unless he bends over. Is he tough or acting tough, I don't know.

I went to the emergency room on Sunday, Nov. 19th and on Monday the 21st they performed an appendectomy/laporoscopy. I cam home on Thursday after begging alot. I had a drain also. The drain was removed on Tuesday the 28th. I am taking percocet every four hours. Stll have minimal pain on lower right side but have not had real bowel movement as they are being helped with stool softner. ugh! My concern is i have pain on the lower left side, it feels like a pinched nerve or something. If i move a certain way it pulls and burns, it is horrible. I still feel bloated as well. This really stinks! I am hoping it is not a adhesion lesion I read about and it is just normal after surgery pain. I did have a c-section in 1989 and it was not as painful as this. I return to work this Monday. I just hope I can regulate this pain and bowel issue before than. Get well everyone!

ok, guys yes the not going for a # 2 is normal. Think about it. The appendix is behind or near your large bowl. The doc has to move all that intestines around to get at it. Mine was removed 7 days ago and doc said it was one of the worst he ever seen. It is suppose to be free not attached to anything and mine was totally imbedded into my large bowl and attached to my stomach (i had 2 years of off and on pain thinking it was irritable bowl syndrome.) Anyway he kept me on clear liquid diet for 6 days straight (only broths, tea, and jello) Needless to say I didn't have to worry about weight gain. But once I got out on Monday I had 1/2 a piece of toast and an egg..... arrrgh, the opposite of constipation occurred. I went on the RABY diet for the other problem (rice, applesauce, banana, bread white, plain yorgurt) and all settled. But everyone is different. I recommend seeing your doctor and and asking for Domparidome (motilimum) it speeds up the digestive tract and will very calmly help with the constipation. My doc put me on it to get ride of the excessive "air" or "bloating" after the surgery.... it helped but caused the opposite problem when I finally ate (but I hadn't eaten for 4 days prior to surgery because of the pain so my body freaked out) otherwise if your doc won't prescribe this med, hight fiber diet and stool softener.... Ok.. you probably have guessed, all my family is in the health arena. My dad is a pharmacist for 25 years so trust me on this one... not to mention my mom is a nurse and my big bro a nurse practioner. Anyway... Domparidom guys... its gentle, fast acting and very useful. Thanks... Ps. Is anyone experiencing general Bloating or puffiness from surgery. I am very fit and have an ironing board stomache... except now it looks like I'm 3 months pregnant... slowly going down but arrrrgh..... Just started back on light cardio at gym today and felt good.

My friend might be having the surgury tomorrow, monday - we're supposed to catch a flight for our holidays sunday night. I know response to pain is different for everyone - but medically, should he be capable of getting on the plane if hes feeling alright?

I'm really glad to see that other people are having the same discomfort that I'm having. I had the laporoscopy appendix removal and I'm having a lot of pain due to the air that they put inside you to see the organs better (eww!) I even feel it in my right shoulder, but not to worry because the doctor said that's normal and it will go away. It hurts to take deep breaths sometimes too. When does it go away?

yeah it's nice to know you're not alone. i just got discharged from hospital. weird though, everyone talks of being constipated, but for me it's the opposite. slowly though i think my body is adjusting. obviously there are many factors that influence each scenario. my appendix was also like attached to the bowel apparently. anyway, anyone a smoker? i wonder if i'll be delaying the healing process by lighting up...

I had the breating problems too
just take a ton of deep breaths as much as possible
it helps
it's that tube, they put a tube down you to breath, so your body adjusted to that

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Sagittarius

Once again, the domestic atmosphere isn't exactly peaceful. Someone is still all worked up, and you may have come out in sympathy by now. Try to discuss things with as much objectivity as you can muster, otherwise, with Mars now retro, the conversation will soon disintegrate into a bad-tempered spat or a slanging match in which you try to catch one another out. It's important to clear the air.
