I am having shoulder surgery on the 28th. How long do you have to keep it in the sling and how long before you can drive?

I had appendix removed [three little holes, plus the gas fill up ;)] this past Monday night-Tuesday morning. Upon waking and then throughout the day yesterday [Tues], my right shoulder had some pain, and the arm, esp. the little fingers felt like it was asleep. Finally went away, for the most part, by noonish today [Wed]. Good luck!

I had 3 of the 4 rotator cuff tendons repaired on 06/11. I had to wear the sling for a month and I still have bone pain but I've been told that's because I had the shoulder bone drilled to insert the two screws. If your repair is not as extensive your recovery will be quicker and less painful. It's still hard for me to get a good night's sleep.

I don't know what to do about it.

I had my appendix removed last week and my doctor told me to expect shoulder pain because of gas, since they filled me up with air. (Weird...I know.)

07/31/07 I had shoulder impingement surgery last 3/07 and undergone therapy 3x a week for one month and mostly did my exercise at home. I almost perfectly tell my doctor i'm fine, but tonight I can barely move my shoulder again because it is frozen. Is this normal? It's been 5 months since my surgery. Waiting for an answer.

I had Impingement surgery and a bone spur removed n 5/07. My shoulder is still swollen and my pain is getting worse. I am unable to lift my arm out to the side and in front of me. The only thing that helps is if i sit quietly and not move my arm it feels a little better but I can't live that way. Does anyone have any advise on what I can do to help the pain.

I wish I could help . I had major surgery on my right arm 4/09/07. I have tried every thing! Pain killers you name it I've tried it. There is good pain medication. My bone now is dying till it finds a new blood flow . The best is ICE It kills the pain then heat lets the blood flow. I'm sorry wish I had better info. Still in Pain in Florida.

Carol Do not know where you are but insist your doctor give you pain meds!! I took Roxicodone 30mg for 2 months if not for that I would not be typing to ya! I know the depression and desperation you are feeling. If the pain is real you will not get high just total pain relief, which will let you move your arm and help you heel. Be careful wind yourself down from the Meds slowly so you do not have a problem!!!!!!!!!! And do not over do it with your arm when you feel no pain , just take it easy but move your arm. Good luck! Still in pain in florida! P.S. If I can give you any more support give me a type and do not be afraid to ask for meds.

I had shoulder surgery on 7/30/2007. A rotator cuff fray, shaved spurs and bone and an excision of part of my collarbone. It is a difficult and painful surgery with a long recovery time but lately it's gotten worse, probably because I'm doing more. I'm reluctant to stay on narcotic pain meds but am told by my dr that this is normal. So ice will help with the pain?
