I suffer from palps also but unlike most of you mine go away when I'm active and when at rest is when they start they feel as if my heart is skipping a beat or stops for a second, I have taken my pulse rate when it happens and it's about 70 beats per min so my heart beat is normal. They went away for a long while but are back now more annoying then ever. I don't have medical coverage but I did the first time I started having palps a few years ago, go to the ER and then to a heart doc who said it was normal, though even he was stumped as to why they happen at rest and stop when active. He did also say that if you get light headed dizzy or pass out then step would have to be taken to correct the beat of the heart. I'm going to try the aloe and the magnesium and see if that works and will write back if it does

<quoted text> you have an anxiety with panic attacks. they can be cured by taking prescibed medication by your doctor. I wouul also learn self ways to calm yourself down. This is better then taking medications.

Don't advise unless you are a doctor. This sounds like it could be PSVT, not anxiety. Try to get the doctor, ER room to catch you with an EKG when your heart is up to around 150/160. This comes from someone suffering with this disorder for 22 years. They mis diagnosed me with anxiety for the first 5 years. Since I was finally correctly diagnosed with PSVT, I take heart medications AND aloe and Magnesium to control them.

Don't assume palpitations are from anxiety. I was misdiagnosed with panic disorder for 6 years, when in fact I have psvt, an extra electrical pathway in my heart. There are many different arrythmias, many harmless but still frightening. The only way to diagnose is catching it on a holter monitor or EKG. If your at home, try putting your face in a bowl full of super cold water (I use ice in it). It slows your heart down. It's the only thing that ever worked for me besides just trying to stop, relax, and slow my breathing down and get full, deep breaths. It doesn't always work and sometimes I end up in the ER, but always worth a try. See a doctor, try to count your pulse if you can so you have some information for them. I also had alot of skipped beats when I started taking motrin regularly. Everyone has their own triggers, if you can find yours, you may reduce your episodes. Mine are also triggered right before my period, so I try to take it easy around that time. Aloe vera sounds worth investigating. Just make sure you get the right kind.
Same story here! Regular exercise and statying hydrated and reducing stress has helped. I always take the aloe around my period.

This sounds so familiar. I also have had heart palpitations since I was a young man, usually after lying down at night, but recently they have been starting in the morning as well and last up to 8 hours, making me very unhappy. I had a stress test done a few years ago for it and my heart was diagnosed as strong, possible atrial flutter, Doctor recommended ablation but I don't want to chance the possibility of having to have a pacemaker if they ablate too many connections. I just turned 58. Once my heart resumes its normal rhythm, I feel great, can run up stairs, etc. with no problem.
I have not heard anyone else mention this accompanying symptom: I have to urinate frequently throughout the hours that my heart is palpitating. About once every hour if it takes place at night. Obviously a connection with the kidneys I guess. Anyone else have this as well? I am going to try all the above suggestions. Thanks

I also suffer from Heart Palpitations for the past couple of years. Alcohol/Anxiety are definite causes but was not always the case every time I had them. I attribute some of it to MSG. But there was a period of about six months that I had no palpitations and looking back I was taking Intramax which is a very good mineral supplement which has potassium and magnesium in it. I also avoided coffee which drains potassium and drank green tea instead. The palpitation came back after I went back to coffee and no longer take the intramax. Also it seems to do it when I drink bud lite in the bottle but doesnt happen when I drink the german beers. I got checked out and everything is fine ie stress test, ekg etc. Blood pressure is borderline though and alcohol does raise blood pressure. I just dont know but am leaning towards the magnesium/potassium and other mineral theory

No answer on how to get rid of the palpitations, but you might want to ask your doctor if you have a mitral valve prolapse, as this is a common symptom. It's not harmful unless the palpitations are severe enough to cause you to faint. Mostly, they're just very annoying and scary!

I am 14 years old and i've been having heart palpitations for almost a year now. It stopped for awhile, but of course its back again and its really interfering with my sleep. I just went a whole night wide awake because everytime i'd try to fall asleep I would feel my heart jumping all over my chest. i really just want a way to help me ignore them and get to sleep at night. please help thanks
I am sorry your going through this at such a young age. Talk to your parents let them review this site and see if they think its a good idea to try the magnesium and aloe vera pills. It makes to me since so many people have had some success with it. I hope it does the trick for you.

In repsonse to Tim T, most doctors are uninformed quacks who no nothing outside of harmful chemical prescriptions, western medicine is only good for when in you're in a crisis. Aloe vera gels will not hurt you and in comparison fish oil is more powerful then aloe vera capsules, but I wouldn't buy aloe vera from walmart though! Always invest in organic things because they are MUCH better for your body, matter of fact don't buy fish oil from walmart either because their fish oil is cheap/unhealthy in the end. Go to your local health/whole food store.

I have tried almost everything! Same with all of you, everything is NORMAL. Doesnt feel like it though...However, they did find an incomplete right bundle branch block and an enlarged heart, but they said thats because im 6'6 and 220 ilbs. IM a big guy so of course im going to have a big heart. I have heard about aloe vera soft gels and magnesium suplements working for some people, i will try those and tell you guys in a week or so if it has worked!

Andy, or anyone else out there find results from taking aloe vera gels and magnesium??? I have read here that people will start to take them, but I want to know the results. Nobody has reported results yet. My Doctor advised against taking magnesium supplements cause they can give you arrythmias. thanks
