As I get heart palpitations I was wandering if anybody knew ways of controlling this terrible thing. It's taking over my life, Is there a natural way or do I have to resort to drugs once again. Please help.

I'm not sure what you mean by palpitations. If you are talking about your heart ponding and racing during a panic attack, you can practic deep breathing with body relaxation. Inhale through your nose slowly and deeply, then exhale through your mouth slowly.

Concentrate on your breathing and try to relax. The more you practice this technique the better it works and the quicker you will relax.

This will help! whether or not it will be enough I can't say.

Good Luck!

john henry.> I have had all the tests done to my heart and all is fine. But for some reason I get this skip in my heartbeat that I just can't understand. Check heart beat diagram below:
----------

There is like a rapid heart beat in between for no reason. The beats are out of touch for only 3 seconds approx. then they start to beat as per normal. The Doc says this is caused by Anxiety but sometimes when I am not even anxious It will happen. It just doesn't make sense. it is really interfering in my work and at home. I was told that taking magnesium is good for these types of things so I am currently trying it and I will see how I go, they say it takes at least 6 weeks before it kicks in. John if you have any other ideas please let me know.

I have a similar problem with palpitations and an irregular heartbeat. One thing thats almost eliminated them is Aloe Vera soft gels one a day. Also stopped smoking.
However a good few beers will nearly allways cause them to come back back just for an hour or two. I think this is due to the alcohol leaching minerals resulting in an electrolyte imbalance. Havent tried magnesium yet, but intend to continue to experiment!

I was until recently suffering from heart palpitations too - although in my case I don't think it's root cause was anxiety or stress. It only seemed to happen if I'd over exherted myself physically, or after exercising.........
I can fully sympathise with anyone who does suffer from this condition - regardless of cause. When it happens to me I have to lie down for about 5 minutes whilst my heart races and pounds wildly; it's sometimes makes me feel like being sick - it's not nice. But like many of you, I've had a check up at the doc and my heart is healthy. The one thing that has dramatically helped me is 'Magnesium' supplementation; it's helped a lot! It seems to have drastically reduced the occurance of this strange and unpleasant phenomena from happening. I recommend Magnesium to all suffers.

The quickest way I found to stop your heart racing is to breathe into a paper bag.
This works because when your heart is palpitating and you breathe in oxygen you are just feeding the heart more fuel to pump, when breathing into a bag you breathe out carbon dioxide and then breathe it back in again thus not fueling the heart, It stops mine in about 10 to 15 seconds.

How bad IS alcohol for you people with palps? I quite smoking 6 months ago and cut right back on the pop, but just last i had a good few and woke up this morning with a very irregular rythum. More like ectopics with internittent AF, not nice and lasted for 3 hrs. I can only think it was the beer but find it hard to think of going through life without having another drop! A take magnesium, q10, and aloe i dont know if its helped, i suspect it was quitting smoking that made the main difference, THAT i would recommend(im 31 btw)

I am 32 and I've been having palpitations on and off, usually it last up to 10 min., but sometimes up to 30 min.I am so scared all the time, and it really bothers me. I can't stop thinking about "when would be the next". I had done a few tests, Ekg and everything seems to be normal, but personally, not for me. When it happens, my heart beat is usually 160 beats/min. They come from nowhere and disappear from nowhere. Somebody can help??? I am physically active and never had a problem during excercise or after.

i dont know if this will help anybody but this is my experience. i have had palpitations ,ectopic heartbeats, all my life, with the odd heart racing episode. i am 44 now healthy and fit.4 years ago my heart started beating abnormally it went into atrial fibrillation .i felt ok but a lttle lightheaded.i went to hospital where my heart self righted itself after 10 hours, they kept me in and diagnosed wolff parker white syndrome, after a catheter ablation all has been well, but the specialist said i would always have ectopic beats as they are quite normal.i think personally aloe vera seems to work as does magnesium/zinc supplements

you have an anxiety with panic attacks. they can be cured by taking prescibed medication by your doctor. I wouul also learn self ways to calm yourself down. This is better then taking medications.

TAKE ANXIETY MEDICATION. HEART PALPITATIONS ARE USUALYY CAUSED BY THIS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR CASES AND WAS PRESCRIBED ZOLOFT. I NEVER TOOK THE MEDICATIONS FOR THE REASON I READ ANXIETY FOR DUMMIES FOUND IN YOUR LOCAL BOOK STORE. THIS HELPED WELL ENOUGH THAT I DONT HAVE TO TAKE MEDICATION. I ALSO TOOK HERBAL MEDICATIONS PRESCRIBED BY AN ACCUPUNCTURE.
BEST WAY TO HELP YOURSELF IS TO UNDERSTAND ANXIETY AND NOT TO FEAR IT.

Hi all, I've had bad ectopics for about 5-6 years now (I'm 32), & like most of you have had many tests and examinations only to find that I am 'normal' I suffer from missed beats all the time, Alcohol does increase the feeling & frequency of the beats - with that I limit my alchol intake. Anxiety can be a root cause - however I do not consider myself an anxious person & the anxiety I don't consciously feel may be firmly rooted in my subconscious.
I find that using some of the adrenaline in the body during episodes of increased activity of the missed / skipped / large or big beats helps or works. This can be achieved by taking a medium length brisk walk - while listening to music on your walkman /ipod etc. can really help in diverting your mind from feeling & noticing these nuisance beats, helping to bring calm again while excercising.
I do feel bad for those of you experiencing high levels of palp's / ectopics after you excercise - I suffer from the same thing, however I feel that continuing excercising is of far greater benefit than not.
One thing we can all say is that we share this experience & that it is sometimes: frightening, annoying, tiring, straining. Finding repose form it & solutions is certainly a worthwhile cause
