How long should a patient remain on beta blockers following a myocardial infarction?

Full story: NLH Question Answering Service

My understanding is that there is evidence for this for 2 yrs after an MI. Is there any evidence for using b blockers beyond that . via NLH Question Answering Service

I have taken Atenolol since 1995, since I
have lost 80 #'s and walk 4 miles a day,
Dr. told me to stop in two weeks and don't stop walking. I went into atrial fibulation had to increase my dose from 12 grams a day to 100 grams inorder to get back in normal rymthum. Finally I am at 50 grams a day and feeling like myself again

My dad died last year at age 92. He'd taken atenelol since it was introduced and his death had nothing to do with it.

At 57 1/2, I'm on it, too, now. A good side effect was reducing my rapid pulse.
