My grandmother recently passed away after a decade fight with Alzheimer's. I am going through her journals and she often refers to Migraine headaches she fought (up to ten years before her memory started to slip). Does anyone know any connection between headaches and Alzheimer's?
what a relief to read these messages on headaches. My husband has early onset "moderate stage" Alzheimer's. He was diagnosed last year at age 61 & has been plagued with bad headaches. His Neurologist prescribed 500 mg. of Depakote & it helped some but made him sleepy. Now he's using ES Tylenol. He also seems to be more suceptible to them when he tries to concentrate.

This buzzing sound could be a ringing like a lot of people have, I have it, It is called something with a (T) I had a gun blow up in my ear and i hear this ringing in my ear all the time. But my doctor told me a lot of people get this sound and you can goggle this. As(ringing in ears) But of course with your husbands health problems anything is possible

My wife (71) is in her 10th year of ahlzeimers. About three years ago she started getting headaches in the afternoon or evening. Over the counter medice would help it, but recently it seems to be getting more severe wnd harder to cure. OTC meds would usualy help the ha go away. hanging on longer now. I would like to know if this is related to the Ahlzeimers? I have tried to eliminate every thing else I can think of with no success. She is pleasant and easy to care for, but the headaches are wearing on us both. Any suggestions or experiences with that migh help?
I wrote earlier this evening about feeling somewhat relieved to hear other stories concerning Alzheimers related headaches. I found your comments interesting and can definitely relate. My husband was diagnosed with Moderate Stage Alzheimer's last year at age 61. The headaches are significant with him too. His Neurologist has never said whether the headaches are part of Alzheimer's, but apparently they are, after reading these posts. I recently broke my wrist and cannot go anywhere without my husband for at least 2 more weeks, as he has to drive me everywhere I go. As soon as I can get out by myself I plan to go see his Dr. alone. I think this is the most impotant thing I can do at this point, as I don't feel comfortable asking or answering certain questions in his presence.

same thing here, elderly aunt had headaches for a year or so, now has infections/dementia/alzhiemers still waiting for proper confirmation, in three weeks she has gone from a sensible kind person to aggressive ,incontienent and complaining her head is hurting more than usual and her eyes cant stand light even wanting dark glasses indoors.

She is rambing nonsence about armies and family problems and sneaky people, to singing repeadly, i am now organising care at home to see her time now is as comfy as possible , i am so worried she will go into a care home which was her biggest fear when she was well she would make me promise to help her....this is sad sad disease..

My husband has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and Vascular Dementia for the last year but I think that it started earlier. He has very painful headaches which I think it has to do with the veins dying. He has had the patches for the last 6 months which have helped but which are painful for the skin. He is just 61yrs which seem sad but we are trying to enjoy life.

Hi. My mom, who is 75 has Alzheimer's and has been complaining of these terrible headaches that become so debilitating she has to lay down. No medication seems to help her situation. We have tried everything. I would love to hear from people who have dealt with a similar situation and if you have found a medication that alleviates the symptoms. Thank you.

Julie, After working on getting right dosages for a while, my husband is now on 500 mg. Depakote at night and 125mg of Depakote in the mornings. I believe he was started on 250 mg./day and we went up from there. Made him a little sleepy at first, but now he's doing well with it - and no more headaches! It took a while for it all to work on him so if your Dr. wants to try it, give it some time to help. We just used Aleve until the headache situation eventually went away on the Depakote. Hope this helps
