You made a suggestion that makes a lot of sense. If the state would mandate that ALL carriers offer a bare bones plan, COMMNITY RATED, for anyone who wants it, costs would stabilize immediately.
One thing that you are not quite accurate about is that non-profits take anyone. They do not. In fact, they really aren't as "non-profit" as you think they are. |

Yes, and they'll have to pay for the religiously insane crackpots like Sarah Palin. That's how the system works; everyone pays, and everyone gets coverage. |

I'm one who does not have insurance. If I could, I probably would, but would no use it as it is such a racket. I worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claims processor. We are being insuranced to death. We don't need to go to doctors as much as we do. It isn't necessary. Try turning to a healthier lifestyle. Try massage, try therapeutic grade essential oils, try chiropractic, try acupuncture. None of those harm you like modern medicine does. It actually boosts immunity. Do what it takes to remain healthy then you don't get sick. Why does everyone WANT to be sick? It is because of the attention they get because of our society being so callous and not caring enough about each other. One gets more mileage from being sick than from being well. Think about it!

Nobody wants Chemotherapy treatments, genius. Do you think YOU could afford the $250,000 price tag to save your life? And if Capitalism rules please explain to me why the police, fire department and libraries are not-for profit industries. |

Stop giving illegals free health care and then there will be money to help offset the high cost of health insurance to US citizens. Cleanse the US of all the illegals and there will be more jobs, more everything for the citizens of this country.
Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal You have 2 families..."Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have 2 parents, 2 children. "Joe Legal" works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted....."Jose Illegal" also works in construction, has "NO" Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table". Joe Legal...$25.00 per hour x 40 hours $1000.00 per week,$52,000 per year Now take 30% away for state & federal tax Joe Legal now has $31,231.00 Jose Illegal.....$15.00 per hour x 40 hours $600.00 per week,$31,200.00 per year Jose Illegal pays no taxes... Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00 Joe Legal pays Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage $1000.00 per month $12,000.00 per year Joe Legal now has $19,231.00 Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00 Joe Legal makes too much money is not eligible for Food Stamps or welfare Joe Legal pays for food $1,000.00 per month $12,000.00 per year Joe Legal now has $ 7,231.00 Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00 Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000..00 per month $12,000.00 per year Joe Legal is now in the hole minus (-)$4,769.00 Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy Jose Illegal pays rent $500.00 per month $6,000.00 per year Jose Illegal still has $25,200.00 Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work. Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family. Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home. Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay. Don't vote/support any politician that supports illegal aliens... Its PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans! |

I think you're under 30. When you get a bit older, you'll understand why what you just said about medical care is false. I think what you see now is young, healthy people abusing the system, so you project that everywhere. Finally, I think when you do get sick, you'll show up in the ER, get treated, and never pay the bill. Now, here's where you just might get in big trouble. If you have a major medical problem, you'll end up on emergency medicaid. They'll toss you out of the hospital system perhaps just a bit too soon, with drugs which are older, cheaper, a bit less effective, then perhaps you get even sicker. Perhaps you'll die. Still funny? Still think it is all just some big rip-off? I can, and does, happen. |

@Whatever -- I heard from friends that in NYC the hospitals are literally overrun with illegal immigrants; ERs are constantly flooded, many do not speak any English.
I'm not quite 100% in agreement with your approaches, but, in spirit, I think you're right -- We do have to stop being a global drop-off point for anyone with a boat, tennis shoes, or enough money to pay smugglers. BTW, did you know that countries like Australia and England charge MONEY to immigrate? What does the US charge? Zero. Overall, we've been foolish to be so open to illegal immigration, and, in many cases, legal immigration, work visas, etc. Other countries do NOT have the equivalent programs. Time to stop it here. |

More emphasis and resources should be targeted toward HEALTH EDUCATION and DISEASE PREVENTION to reduce the cost of HEALTH ..or more accurately..SICK care...
If we ate better, exercised moderately and embraced healthier lifestyles (including periodic check-ups with blood tests, urine tests and other simple ways to assess our problems BEFORE they become major, we could drastically reduce our need for expensive drugs, treatments and procedures to CORRECT these problems....AND we would all feel better...physically and financially! |

Wow, that sounds great. It would make a terrific bumper sticker. Only one problem with it -- do you really want people who are infected with tuberculosis and diptheria wandering around in America untreated? |

I happen to know an 8 year old leukemia patient. I'll pass on your little lecture about 'personal responsibility' and see what she thinks about it. |

Yeah, emergency care in the ER. That's what she's entitled to. Remember when Bush listed that as a viable option for America's kids? Okay, so what happens when little Suzy grows up? Let's say she gets a job at 18. There are 4 options here. 1. The job does not come with insurance so she has to buy her own. With a bout of cancer in her past, she'll never make enough to afford private insurance. 2. The company offers insurance but her 'pre-existing' condition means she won't be covered for much. 3. She gets medical insurance but develops cancer again. The insurance company will levy a $1 million dollar charge on the company as long as Suzy's on the payroll. Soon she'll be out of a job. Everything the government touches turns to crap? Like the miliary? What a bunch of losers those guys are! Like NASA? Geeks who never accomplish anything. Like the fire department? Waste of money, obviously. Like my local library? So what if they save me thousands every year in book costs. Like the National Park System? Heck, just pave over Yellowstone and put a bunch of condos on it. Like the Post Office? Last week I put a 42 cent stamp on a letter and they took it all the way to my sister-in-law in California for me. Actually, I like the Post Office a lot. My mailman is super nice. |

I'll pass your opinions on to Suzy. She's not worthy of care because her parents are poor (lost their jobs and, along with them, their health care). If mommy and daddy were rich, it would be worth treating her. Elitist much? By the way, that health insurance you think you have? Put in a claim for an expensive disease and you'll soon find yourself kicked off the rolls. Companies are very good at maximizing their profits and they don't care how many people they have to kill to do it. 66% of bankruptcies in America were directly related to medical costs. 75% of those people HAD health insurance. |

Ah, yes, the Conservative Mantra. "I like things just the way they are." You have insurance, good health and a doctor who is happy to see you. The fact that 48 million of your fellow citizens are suffering? So what. The fact that 20,000 people in this country die every year due to lack of health care? So what. You have what you want and see no reason to share. The capacity for selfishness and self-pity among priviledge white males is endless. Oh, and as a Republican, I'm sure you think you're much more patriotic than the rest of us. |

Ah, yes, the Dumocrap Mantra.
"I don't like things just the way they are because as a lazy and dumb entitlement crazed liberal I do not posses the ability to make it on my own abilities." You have no insurance because you are lazy, unmotivated and dumb in order to garner skills that an employer is actually willing to pay for. The 48 million that are suffering can do it the same way that I did, on my own with hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Why don't these 48 million join the rest of society and contribute something for a change instead of incessantly taking from it. The capacity for altruism is endless among dumocraps because knowing that someone else besides them will get stuck footing the bill makes them sleep very well at night. Oh, and as a Dumocrap, I'm sure you think you're much more generous than conservatives when the research clearly supports the exact opposite.

How do you know that it is only a few? I had a problem in one country and received good care. Can't say anything about other countries because I didn't need med care anywhere else. It ia amazing how so many Americans got to know so much about medical systems in other countries. My only experience with med care outside of the USA was positive.Secondly,I have yet to talk to someone from other countries who express dissatisfaction with their med system. |
