The fact that McDonalds told us that it was ok to eat them is wrong. Celiac is an allergy. If McDonalds told people with severe peanut allergies that their food did not contain peanuts even though it did, that would be wrong also. To make such an ignorant statement shows just how uniformed you really are about this disease. This is not spilling hot coffe in your lap and suing. This is being told that it is safe to eat something when they know it is not. They need to take responsibility for their actions. And you need to have more compassion. If I were a betting gal Id say there are thousands and thousands of things out there that we are TOLD are fine for us but they really arent. Look at all of the FDA approved drugs that they later come back and tell us they have killed. Micky D is ONE corp liar out of thousands! We take our lives into our own hands just walking out our door. Its sad but its true.

I just read some of the comments about McDonald's french fries and the problems they cause for Celiacs because they have wheat(gluten) in them. I'm puzzled, I thought french fries were made from potatoes. No wonder these people didn't question when McDonald's said they were safe. Now I know why I prefer homemade french fries made from fresh potatos.

Did you actually think you weren't gonna get fat by eating $37 worth of greasy, fatty fries everyday? Maybe you deserve to way 485 pounds. McDonalds should not be held responsible for your stupidity!

I know I'll probably get blasted for posting my humble opinion...but seems to me that if everyone is so aware of their medical conditions and those of their children why on earth would you "risk" feeding them something you were not confident would not affect them? Granted, for the kids, treats are nice...but if diet is that much of a concern (and from the posts here it is obvious that it is)...cook your own french fries at home! Heck, grill your own burgers for that matter! Diabetics know what to stay away from...just eating out is a dietary challenge for them...if you are gullible enough to ASSUME a fast food product is safe, then you have nobody but yourself to blame for providing it to your child or other loved one.

My parents were pretty concerned about it all. We called up a bunch of McDonald's and asked if any gluten (we just asked for wheat, i think) was in their fries. We recieved a "no" from all of them. Now theyre telling us that they lied. every one of them. its frustrating. What. The. Hell. I can't believe that. Being mad about them lieing about the wheat and dairy in the fries is one thing...but getting mad because you were stupid enough to eat $37.00 worth of fries? Per day? This is not McDonald's fault; it is a fault of your own lack of common sense. Blaming them because you got huge from spending all that money and eating that much? You deserve to weigh 485 lbs. Jay Weaver wrote: Where do I sign for my share of this "free money"? Well, I don't know if his case is Celiac or not, but if so, you can't tell its McDonald's from blood tests; you can only tell that you have consumed gluten. for three years (since i was diagnosed with celiac), my blood tests kept telling my doctors and i that i was getting gluten somewhere, and we never found out where i was getting it, until now. you can show the reports of how you were damaged from eating it and how you recovered from not eating it. i just recently (2 weeks ago) had a celiac blood test, which, due to my not eating any more mcdonalds fries, came back normal, which meant that I had not consumed any gluten since my last appointment (which was 6 months before). <quoted text> But you didn't say if ANYTHING was actually going on bad with you or not. I know NOTHING about this but all these people are all pissed because they lied about it. BIG DEAL!! Companies lie all the time and when they get caught, that's just it, they get caught. You said you had signs of it but couldn't figure it out. These other people must of had some kind of sign too if you are being monitored through tests or something. Did you become sick or something, you don't say. If you didn't get sick, but it was still bad for you, then I can't feel real bad. If you did get sick, or had to take other meds to make up for it, then I feel for you. I know it must be a bitch to live with something like this and my hats off to you. I luckily don't have anything wrong with me (knock on wood), but couldn't imagine having to worry constantly about this and that. McDonald's gets a lot of rap for doing this and that. What is right and what is wrong isn't my right to say, only my opinion. But either way you look at it, nothing sold at fast food places is really good for you, except maybe salads and water (and a few years ago, water wasn't good for you either).Tragic but true, can't trust anyone but yourself and ones you know...sometimes. Me want cookie

Quote from the Gluten Intolerance Group: McDonald's Fries are Gluten-Free! GIG Urges Using Knowledge to Be Productive Rather than Destructive What Can We Do First, do not panic. It is important we approach any labeling issues with a sense of fully understanding the process and issue. If the celiac community chooses react and lash out at companies, without having all the facts and full understanding, they risk isolation of those companies and others. The food industry is on the same learning curve about the law as consumers. They are watching how consumers react to labeling changes. History shows us that when we are supportive of the companies in the changes they make, they support us. When we attack, they and others will choose not to support the consumer community. Do we want companies to purposefully add wheat to their products so they do not have to deal with us? That is already happening. Wouldn't you rather pat McDonald’s on the back and watch them do more to support our needs? That has happened with other businesses in the hospitality industry, but it could very quickly stop.

Yay Mary!
I get tired of hearing about so called lies from corporations. Think about it, what incentive would they have to lie, knowing that they would eventually be caught and sued? It is bad business to cause deliberate harm to people and the big corps know this. I am sure this was an oversight - very serious, but not a lie.

In the first place, restaurants are not required to reveal what's in the food. In the second place, MacDonald's leaned over backward to update the consumer when they discovered a possibilty of gluten in the oil they used for cooking potatoes. Take a deep breath and read the comments by the Gluten Intolerance Group at http://www.gluten.net/McDonalds.pdf . The GIG gives MacDonald's high marks. But, of course, that's not going to win you any lawsuits, is it?

Quit blaming tobacco companies for your cancer, booze producers for your alcoholism, casinos for your gambling problems and fast food joints for your obesity. Maybe you take some responsibility for your actions for once in your life.
And to the lady with the sick child, with all due respect and sympathy for your child: COOK.
