Millions still go without health insurance if law passes

Jun 19, 2012 Full story: MassLive.com 85

One of the biggest misconceptions about President Obama's health care overhaul isn't who the law will cover, but rather who it won't. If it survives Supreme court scrutiny, the landmark overhaul will expand coverage to about 30 million uninsured people, according to government figures.

Most of it does not take effect until 2014. The only provisions that are in effect now are for pre-existing conditions and for adult children under the age of 26. These are quite popular.

yes we must insure the illegals too, they are 70% of the ones left uninsured after obamacare. Also there are some people in Zimbabwe and Egypt who don't have insurance lets insure them too.

Obama had no idea of the can of worms he has opened up. He is clueless as to how things really work. It's Amateur night at the White House.

Well, turner, that what i thought, but i keep hearing how many people are benefiting from obamacare now. That is a mystery to me. All i get out of it is, a higher premium on my secondary insurance. I was just curious as to who was benefting now.

Obama care won't cover everyone because insurance or who will pay is not the problem. The problem is cost or what, why and how much.

You either go single payer or go free market with true competition for both insurance AND providers.

Your higher premiums have nothing to do with a law that has not gone into effect yet. That is just good old fashioned gouging by the insurance companies.

Couldn't agree more. It is remarkable that we live in the only country in the world with a for-profit health insurance industry.

"Still, millions of illegal immigrants won't qualify for coverage."

Why are they even allowed to STAY in the country illegally??

Who is going to PAY for their emergency medical costs when they go to the emergency room for treatment?? WE ARE!!

Who is going to pay for our OWN co-pays and deductibles? WE ARE!!

So many insureds who don't have the $150 co-pay to go to the emergencry room, might not seek treatment, while the ILLEGALS will think nothing of being treated on the CITIZENS DIME !!!

So what exactly is your complaint? You are arguing both sides of a single issue.

First off the main point of the article is all of the people who can not afford individual insurance plans. This is no small matter. I pay $2900 a month for medical insurance for my family. I am sure you would have no problem peeling off an extra three grand a month for insurance, but for many people this is a problem. It is nice of you to have such disdain for those less fortunate than you.

Now where is this magical land where there is free medical care in emergency rooms? Really? Where is it?

Anybody who visits an emergency room receives a bill. Most pay the bill and some do not. What evidence do you have that undocumented people pay the bills at a lower rate than anybody else? The three main credit bureaus report just the opposite. Apparently undocumented people tend to pay their bills more frequently than other people. It seems to have something to do with not wanting to draw attention to themselves.

If you are so concerned about people who do not pay their bill, why in the world would you be opposed to letting these same people purchase insurance?

Medical insurance is a pool. Many people pay into the pool and if somebody gets sick the pool pays their bills. The more people in the pool the better for everybody.

Undocumented workers tend to be younger than the population as a whole. It is a good thing to have more young healthy people in the insurance pool. That lowers the costs for everybody. It is a bonus that undocumented people use seek medical attention at half the rate of the average American. They would in effect be subsidizing the rest of us.

By the way, you probably buy into the myth that people cross the border just to get this "free" healthcare. Considering that the Mexican Constitution guarantees free healthcare to everybody, it just makes no sense.

Sir:2900 a month: wow: You got money:
Mexicans come into this town to get employement , without paying federal income tax. without paying social security, without paying medicare. along with illegal entry, they bring in MJ, cocaine, etc.
Also meicare, paid by taxpayers, makes up for some of the nonpayment the illegals have at the hospital. Most illegals, you offer them a job that holds out SS, Meidicare and taxes refuse to work. And don't tell me it is a myth, because i have stood in the line behind them in the grocery store. They have a blue slip, which the checkers check grociers off and end up paying four, five or six dollars for as high as two buggies full of grocries, while i am standing line waiting with my 30,40 50 dollars worth grocries. I have seen the sign in the er that medicare will take up the slack. which cost me about four or five hundred, which i pay at least 20 percent, which on er visits my secondary insurance does not cover. As of about six months ago the federal government brought the Burmines(spelling???). they give them a preacher, some one to school them in buying food, etc in American, provide them with homes and, yes they take some of the jobs that white people and Illegal mexicans would like to have. Young people, yes many are young, some are very old.
If you can afford 2900 per month. you are doing much better than most middle income people. and the middle income people are fast disapearing. going from rich to poor people now.
They are getting free what is proably much better medical care than they get in Mexico, plus all extra spending money, plus the money, that the stupid Americans buy up in dope. I I would say you are very fortunate.

Thanks for lesson in name calling. People like you are usually good at it when you run out of answers. you are extremely funny. What i am saying is not bullshit . it what the people of this town has been witnesing for many years. the bs is is coming for you. I don't work in healthcare, but i do have a lot of friends that are in it. what i see everday really hasn't got anything to do with health care, with the exception that our taxpayers money is going to take care of a lot of illegals and yes your are right "the idiocy in this country is alarming: real alarming as a matter of fact . Yeh too many idiots like you. Look what you have caused, i usual don't get into the name calling game, but you gave me some good quotes. Now sir you have a good nite, if you can.
