What does a low blood platelet count mean?

why you people keep us on dark, few cases can be possible when there is mistake in lab reports, it simply means that you are not aware off the hazardous result of decreased platelets in blood, plz don't misguide us.

So my boyfriend told me today that his platelets are low and he has mono could that be a cause of low platelets?

When i was younger, my levels were down to 4...a whole 4. But there is always hope, I recovered and only sometimes get the symptoms back. But thats ok, there is no known cure for the disease but there is helpful medication. Just wanted to share my story :)

9 months ago I had a platelet count of 86000 now it is 45000.
I was told that my spleen might need to come out. I am really scared to have this done. Anyone every had there Spleen out?

I have had a blood count of 94 for the last 5 years and my haematology unit just ask me to come back every year now for a blood check, I don’t see the point in remembering to go back every 12 months for blood check. I feel very tired most of the time with my low blood count but have never received any treatment for it. So why do they keep us hanging on?

Hi everyone, my sister said her count is 62. She said before it was 90.: I am wanting to find out more what is the normal range? My sister was had a lot of test but nobody is doing anything. And she is in prison and I don't know what to do to help her. Does anybody have any advice??? Please help.

My blood count went down to 115 my doctor said it should be more then 140, he redered me to Hemeologist..I have dibeties and acid reflux problem...can anyone suggest me what should be the cause and is this can be treated easily...

My daughter just had a CBC and her platelet level was 404. It said that it should be between 150-349. What can be done to get these down? And what kind of problems does this cause. She is 13, has a 7mm Chiari 1 Malformation and she does have tingling and numbness in her hands and feet. Also her leg will go out from under her. She went to Duke and had a brain flow study done and they said the headaches are not coming from the Chiari. Can platelets being elevated cause these things.I don't know alot about platelets.Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

The past 2 days I been bruising for some odd reason.. I also have the small pen dot bruises on my arms.. And a big melon size bruise on my belly . Today I went to the Dr.. And my blood platelet count is at ZERO.. Got an appointment at 7am at the hospital .....

My 7year old nephew was taken to emergency yesterday because of diarrhea and vomitting for the past 4days. They have taken his blood and found out that his platelets are very low.Everything was normal except the platelets.
They have him stay over night and observe him. He then did not vomit anymore and doesnt have diarrhea anymore. He is eating well now and feeling much better.They have taken another blood yesterday but doctor said that the results are the same and platelets have not changed and not increased. They think is a virus but not sure why platelets are low.
Our concern is that he has been discharge and the doctor said that his platelets is only 5!We are so scared that why did not do a blood tranfusion because the platelets is so low and was not even a medication to treat it.
The result Platelets: 6x10 ^9/L; RCC 4.4x10. Could you please give please explain in laymans term what the result means and is his platelets result is 5. When should one get a blood tranfusion because we just feel we cant just wait for it to go down and wait for him to deteriorate. I understand its a waiting game but please explain the result to us because we are very concern and worried.
He will be getting another blood test on Monday and Wed again on Wed to see if things will improve with his platelets.
We are scared that its very low and is the decision to discharge him and not give medication or blood transfusion at all is the right decision.
Please help as we need answer and we dont want to be worried everyday that suddenly the platelets will just go down even more and it will be too late.

My name is Blessed and I was told I have a count of 33 just a few days ago after having some blood work done. I have been having so many problems with different things I have lupus and all of the problems that are associated along with that. And I just test for had a test done to see if I had kidney stones and yes it was confirmed that I do. Also are going to have a C-scan next week and have my bladder check. I have be bleeding for over a month now and the test are not really showing very much as to what is going on with me.

Please if there are any physicians ready this please comment on what you think may be the problem.

I am 64. Strong heart, pulse, combined cholesteral of 128 and feel healthy. 8 yrs ago I had a gall bladder removed, got hep c skin infection with the operation and my spleen was enlarged slightly. My lower platelet count and spleen have been stable for 7 yrs.

Last week the the platelets were lower. I eat healthy, no dairy at all, play full court basketball with the young guys 12 hours a week but I am worried. I never drink and eat lots of salmon. I have not detected any bleeding issues.

Nothing I read here relates to my problem. Anyone have any idea?51

hi Sonia my platelets went down due to a enlarged spleen my dr said they get trapped in there my count is in the 50s

Just it normal for women if pregnancy, decreased platelets count if hiv, cancer, anemia, autoimmune diseases, etc.

thanks Kathy you just give us hope to live. i ve been told by my doctor since 2009 that i ve low platelets and im still on medication as they climb up slowly and it was stressing me in the beggining, but now i ve put everything in God's hands and he knows how to protect me.Life goes on no matter what.

Doctors talled us that he relapse , and we are hopless now because this is the 4th relapse after Chemo and one transplant, do you think that he can survive , please give us ahope becuase doctores talled us nothing can be done .he is fighting since April 2009 and now the date is 29 Sept , 2012 .His case ALL - B cells withou PH

My cousin who is like a brother to me started peeing blood and it started comming out of his mouth. My mother rushed him to the ER in Arkansas and they said he had no platelets in his blood. He's been in ICU getting blood transfusions since last night. My aunt whom I live with had to drive 8 hours to get there. They still won't tell us anything. I'm fairly frightened. Has anyone else had this experience? How does it happen? What are the possibilites of my cousin dying?? Are there any? None of the comments on this page had anything to do with a person who had no platelets at all. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Any information is valued.
