From a doctor's financial perspective, such moves make sense. Just as the economy is affecting other industries and individuals, it's also affecting physicians trying to meet their overhead and administrative costs.
Does it make sense for a family of 4 or 5 who are losing jobs, their homes, etc. to dish out thousands for greedy corrupt doctors who are whining. It is a shame when medicine is all about money, money, and money. What ever happened for the sake of helping people in need? All we need is for doctors to request bail out money from the feds. |

Go away, Mary Katherine. No one cares about your incessant whining. Your posts are so easy to spot as you always sound like a petulant 8 year old screaming that the "world ain't fair." In case no one has actually said those words to you...let me be the first. The world isn't fair, Mary. It never was, nor will it ever be. Take your whining, "poor me" attitude somewhere that you haven't already burnt everyone out. |

I became a nurse because I like helping people. However, I too have bills to pay, wants and needs. Why is it shameful that we ask to be paid ? Do you realize how much it costs just for nursing school...multiply that exponentially and that is what it costs to become a doctor. On a $2000 procedure, we are lucky if an insurance company pays $400-$500. We deserve to be paid just like any other profession. Don't like it ? Stay home and treat yourself. |

I'm a nurse, too. The docs agree to take what they get when they contract with the insurance companies so your argument is moot. They know going in exactly what their reimbursement will be. Typically nursing is a fairly high paid profession, depending on where you choose to work. MD offices are the lowest paid in the industry for an RN, unless you're a NP or the like. If you "need to pay your bills too" then I'd opine that you'd be better off working for somone that can pay a higher wage and isn't directly subject to the whacked out insurance companies. Just my humble opinion as a nurse going on 26 years now. |

And as far as that little gem above? Wow. You should be ashamed for that remark. |

Yeah, those greedy rich doctors. What did they ever do for anyone else? 1. Employ people (office manager, nurses, PAs, custodial staff, receptionists...) 2. Attend medical school, causing the university to employ professors, secretaries, admissions staff, security, custodial, landscape crews.... 3. Pay off their student loans, causing lending institutions to be able to keep their employees. 4. Save lives and work horrid hours at their families' expense. |

Doctors are closing their businesses all over the Valley. Some are working for a $20 per hour pittance. Clinics cannot afford to pay because the insurance companies won't reimburse properly. They never pay what they are supposed to. They are not the greedy ones. The insurance companies with billions of dollars in assets are the greedy ones, directing what doctors can do and what they cannot. If you knew what doctors are really making, you would not have called them greedy. Many are working for little and many business owners are barely covering their overhead, some are not. They sink their savings into their business hoping the future will change. You really don't know what you are talking about. They never get reimbursed anywhere near to what they bill. In fact, I had a 2 1/2 hour surgery a couple of years ago. The insurance company paid my doctor $750 - for a 2 1/2 hour surgery. I was disgusted. Greedy insurance companies. All of them. Personally, they ripped me off some $2,000+ in out of pocket auto accident costs some years ago. Don't blame the doctors. Their income is not what you assume. Further, if you knew what it took to get their degree... - I've said enough. I'm married to a doc and I know several docs. I'm not just guessing or assuming. My words are based on first hand knowledge.
