Healthy Families Program faces budget ax

It seems that with many of our leaders - i.e. UC top admnistration makes $800,000 a year - its time for them to give up $600,000 a year. If you get enough of these "over paid" executives to give up their bloated state salaries, then we could keep what really matters to Californans. The $800,000 state salaries - which we should as taxpayers have a right to veto - should immediately be cut by 70 to 80 per cent. Then and only then should they look at such programs as keeping families healthy and our state park systems (which although not insurance keeps a lot of us healthy and sane as well.)

There is NO and I mean NO reason to pay these executives so much state taxpayer money - get real government!

These health care programs are important. Sadly, programs just like these should be available to the general public. My family pays nearly $800 per month for our group coverage. Free and low cost health care should be available to everybody, regardless of income, social status, race, religion, gender or age!
Our health care is failing us as a society. We overpay for private and group coverage. Medi-Cal is free for low income. WHY should free health care only be available if you are "poor"? Medicare programs are also being cut and these are people who have paid into social security through their jobs their entire lives. And yet they no longer have adequate coverage and the elderly are being placed in nursing facilities when it would cost Medicare less money to provide in home care for several hours a day, yet in home care is not a coverage provided.
The entire system needs to be revamped. But the AMA, independent hospitals, pharmaceutical companies are the big backers against a workable system that would provide for all citizens. Other countries provide socialized medicine. But, that cuts out the big bucks for doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies. Shame, shame, shame. Change is needed!!!

Don't have kids if you can't afford them. Please prove you citizenship at the door.

Before you get all mad, why should my tax dollars have to pay for insurance for someone who unlawfully entered my country and is now enrolled in a system that is funded on tax dollars.

People are so quick and willing to spend Americans hard earned tax dollars on people who are not supposed to be hear!

The Federal government is supposed to protect us from foreign invasion, well it continues to happen and is being encouraged by the government.

I have no problem with this program for citizens and children of citizens, but I'm sure citizens are the minority.

and what about those of us who were born and raised here, went to college, got married, had kids, then lost income? i've paid taxes my entire working career and have an 8 month old baby on healthy families due to a drastic drop in my family's income. being self-employed, my husband and i have always paid a TON for individual insurance, however my daughter was born with a heart condition that leaves her uninsurable. healthy families still helps those of us who it is designed to help, but now the state might kick my daughter off and leave her uninsured? how am i supposed to pay for her cardiology appointments with no insurance? i know the situation with illegals in the state using up our social resources is frustrating, but please think a bit more about the rest of us before assuming everyone needing assistance is either a mooching mexican or a lazy, unemployed bum.
