They are not ingnorant. They are correct. Well, they could be ignorant anyway but they are correct about it being addictive. People that smoke are addicted. I know because I smoked for about 8 years and it took me almost two years to finally quit.

It is addictive. I just don't know if its chemically addictive or just a habit that is hard to break.

If you smoke two packs a day of Luckies, Camels and/or Pall Mallsls like I did you would know it is addictive. Some days I would open the third pack and smoke a few of them. I even smoked some English import cigarettes at one time to get stronger smokes. I think they were called "Ovals"

I still think that a new pack of Luckies smell great.

This crap of not smoking in bars just went too far. People should make there own choices.

Congrats on quitting since that was your choice. I have no problem with the word addicted, everybody is addicted to something, coffee, chocolate, etc.

Their ignorance is in worrying so much about other peoples choices and thinking that everyone should be like them..no thanks, I would rather enjoy my addictions of non narcotic legal products no matter what they are.

Honestly, many of the antis are pizzed because narcotic drugs of their choice is not legal..that may be the bulk of the bitchin and moaning antis

I don't know about the narcotics, but I know a good deal of pot smoking antis. Probably the antis posting on this forum as the posts suffer from a good deal of cognitive impairment.

As far pot, smoking is smoking.

If these antis do the smokefree brownie thing instead, the obesity police are on the way.

Musician- one of your fellow musicians died due to lung cancer from second hand smoke. If you could just hold all of the crap from your cigarette in your lungs and let YOUR lungs filter out all of the tar and other crap in the cigarettes, but NO, you feel the need to share it with the rest of us, the MAJORITY that does not smoke. Your days of smoking indoors are NUMBERED. 2 cities voted for a smoking ban this last week. Just because you addicts like to remain in ignorance, the rest of us do not.

<quoted text> Protecting the employee and employees have no choice where they work is such a fraud.
Non smokers had a choice when they accepted the job otherwise they would not be employed there. Employees do not suddenly become to dumb and stupid to think for themselves whether to accept or refuse any employment just because the public at large says so.
u cannot own me wrote:
<quoted text> ... and the miners fought for that act, it was not forced on them..
No, it was forced on the owners of the mine. Someone should have explained the rights of owners to these complaining miners. As you explained above, employees "had a choice when they accepted the job otherwise they would not be employed there. Employees do not suddenly become to dumb and stupid to think for themselves whether to accept or refuse any employment..."

Instead, those miners went running to the "nanny state" government to steal owners' rights, claiming that the mines were unhealthy and dangerous.(Guess they didn't understand that there is no thing as "premature death" --- when they died a wheezing death from black lung, it was just their time to go.)

Too bad you weren't there to explain how selfish they were, forcing their rules on the owners of the mines. If they wanted a safe and healthy workplace they should have found another job instead of being weak babies running to "nanny government."

This is the point you were arguing, right? Or do your arguments only apply to bars and other places where you want to smoke?

You are talking about this fellow, I'm quite sure.

I saw some other article that talked about the smoky bars, etc..
Looks like the antis are looking for a recent death to pounce on to further their cause.

go tighten those loose screws up in your head, it was between the owners& employees and the public did not get to decide. Somehow you choose to ignore that people did choose to not work in the mines and it takes people to run the operation.

The non owning and non employee public did not get to vote or run to a nanny to force their will on the miners or owners nor did the public get to join in on the bargaining process..DUH!!!

Once again so it will sink into your half a cell,*NO PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT*

Isn't it funny that you can't smoke in public but you can DRINK?
I don't think that alchol should be served where minors can watch you drink it, it has the same effect as second hand smoke. The minor watches, thinks it ok, grows up drinks and become another drunk. pretty stupid sounding isn't it? but it's true

Pick your poison and be done with it.

I saw that he provided no link, either for anything mentioned including whatever cities that supposedly added bans.

I had seen that second article here on topix and he was just whaling away on that one.

Too bad the musician died. He had quite a legacy, but it is another Mrs. Christopher Reeve kind of thing with that one article.

Sounds good to me.
I'm all for banning kids from beer joints.

Frankly, I really don't care if kids see adults drink as I have more of a Euro attitude about it, but if the antis really want to be so protective of kids, they need to get babysitters and quit parking their kids on bar stools in the bar areas of restaurants.

Sit in the dining room with the kiddies. The bar is for adults only.

FWIW, I actually saw someone bring in an INFANT into a bar hanging on them with one of those slings.

The bartender was young and didn't quite know how to deal with it. First time I ever saw it happen at this place. We were setting up for a gig, came back hours later and they were still there with this infant...sitting getting tanked.

There was a 21 and over sign on the door and the only food served at this place were snacks, not even sandwiches.
