Not so strange. I've read that a lot of online services will delete messages they find abusive in some way, but still show them to the original poster --- probably to keep them from reposting.

You should look at the messages they deleted and try to figure out what you did that caused them to be deleted (because many/most of your posts are getting through.) Are those posts nasty in some way? Are you "cutting and pasting" the same long messages multiple times? If you look at the messages that are getting deleted, and what they have in common, you can probably figure out why they are being deleted.

And I don't think it's because Topix is run by "antis." The majority of the posts in the smoking forums are from smokers.

I'm NOT accusing TOPIX of being RUN by anti's - But having operated a forum MYSELF - I know that the majority of the work is done by "Moderators" - People who have been on the forum awhile (Like Jass, Truth be Told, ETC. ETC.), Who are "Trusted" and given the ability to Delete, Censor, and moderate posts, and posters - quite often - because these people have reason to "Disagree" with material posted - they have been known to "Abuse" their positions.

As I've noted elsewhere, Topix is not a particularly safe site to frequent. I have, several times, had computers at someplace like a library where the virus-detection software is more sophisticated than mine flag Topix as a threat.

If you spend enough time on these forums, you will most likely end up with a virus of some sort. The variety that does EXACTLY what was described has shown up on mine several times. A clean install is the only thing that has managed to address the problem so far, once it got that far along.

I could go through the forum, composing responses and then saving them as text files, then go to a different computer, go to the appropriate threads, and post from those files. The posts would show up just fine. Posting my comments from my computer, though, would result in posts that were not showing up anywhere else. If I took the computer somewhere else, with a different ISP, it made no difference. My posts from the computer STILL would not show up anywhere else but on my computer.

It may make him feel all vain-glorious and all that, but it is just a simple question of his software being screwed up, not some conspiracy of censorship.

Thank you for this nice message, and I do accept your apology. I'm still not sure how I got defined as an "anti" by you and others here. I've smoked in the past(cigars & pipe)and enjoyed it. I think folks should have the right to smoke, ride a motorcycle, skydive, and all sorts of other dangerous activities.

But I'm not going to pretend they are not dangerous. When Hugh Jr. and others say that smoking doesn't cause cancer, they are wrong, and I'm going to point that out.

On this thread, I said that online polls or voting by Topix users is meaningless as a way to determine public opinion. Too few people respond, and they are self-selected. If you want to see how the public truly feels, look at the results of a general election.
