Fast Food, Heroin, and Food Addiction, What’s the Connection?
I’ve been writing about how addictive sugar is, and that it creates the same reaction in the brain that opioids (heroin, morphine, opium) do. I’ve also written about the very interesting food addiction pyramid, and offered you a quiz to determine if you are addicted to sugar. Throughout many of my other articles I have injected my thoughts that not only is sugar an addictive substance, but white flour, added salt/sodium, dairy, and unhealthy fats are also addictive.
So, imagine my excitement when I came across an article about a study done on lab rats that demonstrated food creating the same brain changes that opioids do! This study covered the effect that the combination of sugar, fat, and salt had on the brains of the lab rats. The brain reacted the same as it did to heroin or morphine.
Where do you find this combination of sugar, fat, and salt? In fast food of course! You could argue that this study only looked at the brains of lab rats, but you tell me - can you eat just one fry, or just one burger, or do you end up craving more? Does the smell of the drive-through lure you in, do you keep going back for more, day after day, week after week?
One man, a self-proclaimed fast food addict who nearly died of congestive heart failure (he was only 41 when interviewed) stated that “I can’t just have one — I have to have two” when it came to his addiction to Wendy’s hamburgers and fries.
This article concludes with the information that Ann Kelley, professor at University of Wisconsin, hopes that her study will lead to medications (and programs) for people that have eating compulsions:
The over-consumption of this food leads to problems like obesity,”(Kelley) said.“Maybe we can develop treatments that will help us curb our appetite for these substances.”
Here’s my thought: while I certainly believe in physical/chemical food addiction, I don’t believe that people need medication to relieve their sugar, salt, and fat addiction. What is necessary is to stop eating those ingredients, do your own cooking with whole foods, and remember that the first 3 to 7 days you will go through withdrawals. My experience has been that once past that first week (at most), I no longer have physical cravings for the addictive ingredients, but emotional cravings do still come up. I documented this in my “Ban The Refined Sugar Experiment“, which is where I noted that I used journaling to get past the emotional cravings for food.
It’s also interesting to note that in my experiment I was focusing on the elimination of refined sugar, foods high in natural sugar, and sugar alcohols, and I also mentioned that I was not consuming added salt or unhealthy fats (or dairy), either. The reason I find this interesting is because the study done on the lab rats included the combination of sugar, fat, and salt.
Back to the topic of medication, I cannot say that there wouldn’t be some extreme cases in which people would need it to go through the withdrawal from addictive food ingredients, just like people who get off of heroin do, but for the most part I believe that you need to eliminate these foods from your diet, which involves a change in lifestyle. If all you do is take a medication to get off of fast food and lose weight, isn’t that still just a band-aid on the symptom?

Likewise your denial would never ever let you see the truth.

Regardless, the smokers are being pushed out because of their stubborn unwillingness to compromise their unyielding and addictive habit for not even a few hours while at work or in a restaurant.

What you end up getting is....pushed out my stubborn little nico-freak!

"U cannot own me" you just keep on thinking you have more rights than that of the majority of adults in this country who choose not to partake in this omni-destructive and obnoxious activity!

You keep trying to FOOL people into believing your lies, distractions, mis-truths, as well as pretending that all is well....the funny thing is...you ain't fooling anyone and the masses are speaking out in a resounding collective of a voice and saying no more!

The Ohio supreme courts have already laid the groundwork to hold the appropriate level of accountability on smokers, who are supposed to be adults, and who should understand their responsibility as the law is concerned.

Ignorance is no excuse for non-compliance, as was written by the courts!

Get ready!

Another Non Smokers snap and Kill 3 more:

3 Women Shot to Death as They Sat in Car With Kids
Sunday, November 08, 2009

PrintShareThisEAST ST. LOUIS, Ill.— Three women were shot to death at an East St. Louis gas station as they sat in a car with two children, police said.

Neither of the children, ages 1 and 8, were injured in the shooting Saturday evening, said East St. Louis Police detective Ken Berry. One suspect was in custody but had not yet been charged Sunday, and the shooter was still at large.

The women were sitting in a car at Crown Food Market about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when a shooter approached and opened fire, police said. He then fled.

The victims have been identified as Canikia Harvey, 26, Raykel Gathing, 26, Jaimaca McDaniel, 24, all of East St. Louis, according to St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone.

An employee who answered the phone at the gas station Sunday said the three women were regulars and never seemed to be involved in any trouble.

Flowers have been placed at the gas pump where the women's car was parked, he said, and no one was using the pump.

Willie Holmes, McDaniel's father, said she has three sons. He said the three victims were all good friends.

A relative of Gathings, Chamethele McKinney, said the shooter should be harshly punished.

"There were kids in that car," she said. "He showed no remorse."

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting. Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.

The killings bring the number of homicides in East St. Louis this year to 27. There were 19 in 2008.

Stinky, it's you and your ilk who are in fantasy land. You call others heathens, but are in denial that your disgusting habit is a sin. You deny you smell, you have leathery skin, yellow teeth and need an oxygen cannister to walk to your mailbox. You deny your disgusting habit is a rude imposition on others, not to mention the additional medical insurance costs we pay for.

Where are they going to get the money to pay for your so called fantasy ----BUTT COPS---? Most city budgets are already stretched to the limit, Im pretty sure there not going to waste any resources to go around and look for smoking violations.

Hey maybe you non smokers who live in fantasy land can appoint yourselves as BUTT COPS. Your already BUTTS so all you have to do is add the word COP.

DAYTON, Ohio -- Dayton police said they went to an apartment building on Fernwood Avenue looking for a robbery suspect and ended up tazing the man's mother who is legally blind.

The incident happened on Fernwood Avenue Thursday.

Police said 49-year-old Denise Harris refused to talk with them and became combative, striking out at an officer. According to officers, when they tried to arrest her, she resisted and they tased her.

Neighors said the officers used unnecessary force on the blind woman, who is also suffering from diabetes and cancer.

Sgt. Charles Anderson said Harris will be charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, but the incident is under investigation.

Harris was taken to the hospital by an ambulance to be checked out.
