Madison County could get strong smoking ban

I do not think that the city gov. or politics should dictate what we do with our own personal lives. We as smokers decide if we want to chance health problems or possible death. We should consider smoking around others as a problem for them and not do so out of thoughtfulness and consideration,of which I do.What ever happened to choice. Are we living in a communist country. What else is going to be forced on us. I think this is just the beginning to controlling all of our lives.

There would not be a problem if every smoker did as you say you do, and not smoke around a non smoker. |
The article says the ban would be just for that purpose. Prohibiting smoking in areas where non-smokers congregate. |

"Secondhand smoke is the third leading cause of preventable death in this country, and it involves people who have no desire to smoke. This is solely for the protection of the people who live here in Madison County."
Some of these officials are total chumps for this hoax. These SHS death tolls are pure speculation. Stanton Glantz must be proud of his work. |

It really is a shame that no one's talking about the DECEMER 11th city council meeting where the Chamber of Commerce gave their report to the Madison City Council, which stated that OVER 90% of the businesses in Madison do NOT want a smoking ban. This is coupled with the fact that the ATTORNEY I retained to speak for us stated this is a Civil Liberties violation, may indeed squash this stupid repressive ban in Madison.

It was reported earlier in the week by the very biased Herald Leader and Ms. Hahn that smoking rates dropped in the Fayette County area due to the smoking ban.
The fact of the matter is that Ms. Hahn's study is very flawed. If you check with the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet, you will find her results are not in line with the tobacco tax that has been paid. It's too bad that she is totally lying to the public and getting away with it. I am a graduate of UK and it's sad that one of their employees could put them in a potentially embarrassing situation. A true professional would have validated their study findings with outside sources before releasing results to the public. Also, Ms. Hahn states that smoking rates remain high in Northern Kentucky. Ms. Hahn apparently knows nothing about economics as well. People from Ohio cross the river every day to purchase their cigarettes in Kentucky because the tax rates are lower in Kentucky. People in Northern Kentucky do not smoke any more or less than elsewhere in the state. |

This is whole thing is getting way silly!
Smoke if you must, just stay downwind of me! |
Bill, Pat, Sandy, how do you feel about smokers, smoking around non smokers?
People should be polite and tolerant. Most nonsmokers aren't afraid of and don't mind others smoking in a bar or restaurant. I have no problem extinguishing a cigar if it bothers someone. But don't go into a cigar bar if bothers you. |

What's wrong with having smoking establishments and non-smoking establishments? As long as each business owner has chosen what is best for his business and implemented it properly? The word here is CHOSEN. Folks, it's wrong to force repressive laws onto private businesses. Let them decide for themselves. Do all you non -smokers out there really want a totalitarian country? Not the ones I know.
I think there need to be more reasonable compromises on both sides (smokers and non-smokers). I don't believe in the government dictating to business owners. Business owners are in the business to serve a demographic that will maximize their profit. They do not exist nor claim to serve the general public at large. |
To be reasonable, how many places of business would sale drugs in their stores to maximize their profits?Maybe we should talk about a particular place of business that has been banned or that should be. The average restaurant owner, if they have the choice, are going to do as they have done for years. Put up a half wall (some don't even do that) that does absolutely no good and say welcome all. If they would like a smoking section and have employees that smoke themselves that would take care of the smokers then they could pull in more business by adding a totally separate room for smokers with an excellent ventilation system. If a restaurant had this, I’m sure all the smokers would frequent that restaurant as opposed to the others. |
You know I don't smoke but I believe that the person that does smoke should have the right to smoke wherever. I think it should be up to the owner of a restaurant wwhether he wants to ban smoking. It shouldn't be forced
Why don't you inforce some of these laws on drinking? How many innocent people have been run downed, or killed because they were hit by someone that was smoking? Now, how many have been killed because someone was drinking? Yet, alchohol is the biggest advertisement and pushed down your face whenever or whatever you watch on TV.That's all kids see when watching a ballgame. And we wonder what's wrong? |

They want control. Period. You say we are a communist nation, I say we are at a crossraods right now between communism and fascism, bth of which having the same effect, absolute toalitarian control. 21st century America is very similar to the Wymar republic, the precursor to Nazi Germany. With Fascists on the one side and Communists on the right. The sad part is that many people don't even realize that whenthey advocate the destruction of individual rights, they are actually promoting the destruction of their own nation. Currently we, as a nation, are loosing property owner's rights, leaning us more toward the commuanal structure. some 30 years ago, this smoking issues would not have come up, because businesses wer privately owned and it was understood that the owner exersiced executive control over the property. Today it is generally assumed that all proerty is under the stewardship of the state, and the "owner" (who owns in name only) must get permission from the state controllers for any use of the property. Fascism, on the other hand, allows private ownership, but with the understanding that the individual is under the control of the state. This effects the indivdual smoker more so than the business owner who caters to smoking customers. Under the fascist police state, any individual behavior is directed by the dictation of the state. It is unclear which totalitarin principle these anti patriots have adopted, and many seem to be slpit as their core ideologies. But toalitarianism can be defeated, the first step is to get educated on the methods of past movements. read books such as nineteen eighty four by Orwell or Brave New World by Huxley. Both cover the world view of 20th century totalitarianism and are intended as warnings against it. Next Join a resistance movement. They exist nationwide, but many are underground because of the strng totalitarian sentiments running through ther counrty right now. If interested, post a response here andI will give an email adress where I can be reached, and I will send you a list of organization that I work with in the American national freedomfight. We can beat this thing. We just have to stand and demand to be free. |

I have just as much of a right,(if not MORE), as a nonsmoker to go to restaurants, bars, places of business, etc. If people must hurt their own health by smoking, it indeed, their choice to do so. But, NO ONE has the right to impose their habit onto me, or my children. If smokers will not make their own choice to smoke away from others, then the government must protect those of us who choose to stay away from this potentially deadly health problem!!!!!!!

I don't smoke. I do not agree with the smoking ban, I think it should be left to the individual business owners to decide. I also believe the people in power are going to enact this regardless of what the people think..

Any type of body fluid from a person testing pos. for h.i.v. causes a.i.d.s which to me is even worse, but should any goverment agency tell them were to go to the bathroom? Should they quarantine those persons? I think not. I don't smoke, but don't we have bigger issues this day and time. Why pick on a smoker. In other words has it come to the point were anyone with an addiction has to be separated by walls or rooms or anything. I guess carring a HOLY BIBLE down the street ,because it is offensive to some, should be illegal too. It's called life. I feel that we don't need a new law placed on us every time someone does,nt approve of someone else's habits. Law after law is the begining of communism. Then a goverment just says we can't have all these laws,so they say we'll just make one big law. And that is,we will tell you everything you should do. Wise up.
