WASHINGTON - Majority Leader Harry Reid is considering a plan for higher payroll taxes on upper-income earners to help finance health care legislation he intends to introduce in the Senate in the next several days, Democratic officials said Wednesday.

These officials said one of the options Reid has had under review would raise the payroll tax that goes to Medicare, but only on income above $250,000 a year. Current law sets the tax at 1.45 percent of income, an amount matched by employers.

It was not known how large an increase Reid, D-Nev., was considering, or whether it would also apply to a company's portion of the tax. President Barack Obama has said he will not raise taxes on wage earners making less than $250,000.

The Pelosi health care bill requires that every American have health insurance. The penalty for not having a health insurance is 2.5% of your income or $250K fine and five (5) years imprisonment. Americans should wake up as the Obama administration is acting under the big banner of being Politically Correct and this is where we, the Americans, get screwed over and over. The current Administration's political correctness has exercised decisions that will bankrupt United States of America and will put Americans in a very disadvantage positions.
Pelosi should be voted out of office when her term expires.

The richest 1 per cent of Americans pay 39.9 percent of country's total income tax bill. the top 10 per cent pay 71 per cent. The top 50 per cent pay 97 per cent of all income tax. The bottom 50 per cent of earners now make 13 percent of country's total income yet pay less than 3 per cent of income tax. How much more do the evil rich folks have to pay to remake Obama's America? Do you not think all patriotic citizens should contribute something to a government they except to get something from? Liberals have no problem with giving someone elses money away. And other liberal politicians like in leadership roles believe they are exempt from taxes. I believe there would be a whole lot more compromised agreement in Washington and less rancor if we all paid a flat tax. How can you create jobs by taking more money away from the people who do the hiring? What happened to Nancy Pelosi's promise upon taking the speaker's job that we would pay-as-you-go, return Wasington DC to fiscal responsibility, cut ear mark spending? Wonder Woman got right to work. Pork projects are now investments. Our deficit went from 161 billion in 2007 to 459 billion in 2008 and now 1.8 trillion in 2009.

Don't tell me this bill is just about a public insurance option to offer competition to hold down costs. These are Obama's own words....If I were designing a system from scratch, then I'd probably set up the single-payer system... There was a lot of resistance to a single-payer system...Over time it may be that we end up transitioning to such a system. For now, I just want to make sure every
American is covered....I don't want to wait for the perfect system....I happen to be a proponent of the single-payer universal-health-care plan....That's what I'd like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately because first we have to take back the White House and we have to take back the Senate and we have to take back the House...... So now they have then all, so what do you think the plan is now?

Are you really looking forward government managing the entire health when they can't even distribute the H1N1 vaccine? Are you really looking forward to a government system like say Japan where agents penalize workers if the waist size is more than 33 inches? I guess the Progressive Liberal would argue that they are creating thousands of new police jobs to keep Americans in line with the goals of the new Utopian society Obama is creating.
