Call me a cynic, but it seems that there are an awful lot of governmental layers involved to get a simple contract signed. There's a "federal" requirement and an Inspector General approval needed and then a Massachusetts municipal contract law and finally our own local process. Think of all the people needed at government desks to write, approve, file, monitor and push paper around for something that a simple handshake and one page agreement could accomplish. It's no wonder our taxes are out of control.

I think the ability to bill off to the ambulance companies is relatively new.

It's too bad the cities are squeezing Trinity for this cash...they do a great job. It's too bad companies can't be successful without being forced to pay kickbacks. Drew Weber and the Spinners are getting the same treatment.

Why should a private company have to pay a city to be allowed to work there? No wonder our raises are getting squeezed and we don't have a Christmas party anymore.

Is anyone surprised about this contract being awarded to Trinity.
I guess some people missed how cozy Chumpley is with some people in the City of Lowell. Hhhmm, was that him in the picture at the Salvation Army thingy with the police big wig Lavalle??
I thought the voters of Lowell were cleaning house there.
Well I guess Alan K. will still keep his towing contract with the city..

Reason being that Trinity will receive the fees people pay whenever they take an ambulance ride. Seeing as how those are not cheap these days, the money they spend to have the contract pales in comparison to the money Trinity will make from that. It's nothing new.

I read this passage in the article "Trinity is a known commodity that receives high marks from all of the city departments that work with them" and can't help but wonder who they actually talked to .. seems 90% of the people I talk to are not pleased with the level of service that Trinity provides so exactly what city departments give them high marks? mabye its the accounts recieving.. not too hard to make a $1.00 payment now is it

There is def on thing you can read in to the signing of this new contract - the power of former City Manager John Cox is gone.. Cox had been representing PrideStar who wanted the contract.. Interesting that the Trinity extension is done after Alan K and Armand M lose their seats - big supports/friends of Cox.. Bye Bye Johnny Cox!

the Trinity money just covers the city dispatchers that funnel the calls to Trinity Ambulance. So the dispatchers basically work for trinity but get their benefits, sick pay, vacations from the city of Lowell.
Of course , the towns are prohibited from making a profit , construed as a kick-back

What a surprise. Trinity extends their contract without any other company having a chance to bid. Capitalism has been subdued by cronyism yet again. Too bad. If Trinity didn't have such a stranglehold on Lowell and actually had to compete....
