The product of health insurance is to provide you with medical coverage when you need it. Unlike other businesses that need to provide you with their product in order to make any money, health insurance companies actually make more money for themselves when they restrict and do not pay claims. In other words, they make more money when they do NOT provide the product that you have paid them for. Read the 50 to 70 pages of your health insurance contract. Pay particular attention to the section entitled “limitations and exclusions”. People’s health is not a product that needs to be left to the whims of money motivated CEO’s and stockholders. If that is your thinking, you might as well have your police and fire department protection based on insurance premiums you pay. Then you can go to the police and fire protection insurance page for ‘limitations and exclusions’ on whether or not the police or fire department would come out to your house in the event of an emergency. The point is, you would never think of discriminating against another citizen if he was the victim of a fire or crime. So why would you be ok with health insurance companies discriminating against fellow citizens who have pre-existing medical conditions?

One of the biggest problems with private health insurance today is discriminitory rating of the coverage that is issued. The most visible example is the cost of health insurance for an individual, a family or a small business with just a few employees. A large company gets a VERY discounted group rate. The insurance company MUST also accept everyone in the larger company group at the same rate without any individual information on the health history or physical condition a person. There is no difference in the risk to an insurance company if it covers 5,000 people under a group rate plan or 5,000 individuals who each have there own insurance. What Congress needs to do is pass a law that requires health insurers to offer the same LOW cost coverage they offer to groups to ANY and ALL individuals without any restrictions or requirement for individual health histories. If Congress passed such a law it would go a long way in making health care affordable for ALL. One additional item. The law would have to be effective IMMEDIATELY. This is necessary so the health insurers do not try pulling the kinds of tricks the credit card companies are using before the rules related to that industry take effect. Insurers would be barred from making any major changes to pre existing group coverage in a way that would suddenly raise its cost. The current low cost Group rates would be the NEW cost standard for ALL insurance.

There is nothing lower than denying health coverage to those too weak to fight for what they paid for.

The government has yet to run anything well. Everything they touch mushrooms into expense and inefficiency. The last thing we need is more "help" from the government. We are already drowning in debt as we are forced into Socialism. Let us remember the fabric of America and get back on the capitalist track. Take personal responsibility.

I am not interested in participating in a substandard healthcare program like those offered in the other industrialized nations by their respective governments. Like 70% of Americans, I am happy with my medical coverage and do not want the Feds involved with my family's healthcare. I do believe that there are a significant number of people who cannot afford healthcare and should be provided medical bebefits, but the Federal Government is completely inept when it comes to identifying these people and getting the needed assistance to those who qualify. Illegal aliens and those who choose not to partcipate in employer offered plans make up a significant percentage of the uninsured, but our President and Congress what to expedite one of the largest redistributions of wealth ever undertaken in this country to jump into another big spending plan without exercising any due diligence. How is that stimulus plan working out that had to be voted on immediately to save the economy?

Gee, just imagine how much better off American society would be if there were twice the number of uninsured citizens. Maybe the rest of the world should model their healthcare systems after ours?

Check where the United States ranks in life expectancy and infant mortality rate. The CIA's website has the info, we're in the 40's for life expeectancy and 29th (last time I checked) in infant mortality. TO say nothing about the immorality of a family losing their home and in financial ruins becuase of illness, let slone losing their health or life.

But our population is far more diverse and unstructured than theirs. That may have something to do with it. I seriously doubt the government being in control will make those stats drop. Besides, in times like these should the government be spending like they have? Can we really afford it? Maybe they should focus on changing policies to actually lower the cost of health care so more people can afford it.

Joe laughs a lot, and he isn't really so much in favor of good healthcare as he is against "Wall St." Somehow, he seems to think that the greed motive in Washington is better than that in the business community. It isn't. When an insurance company mismanages their plan, they go out of business. When the government mismanages healthcare - which they will - they will simply limit access, lower quality, and raise your taxes to make up for it. So, if you don't pay taxes and want something for nothing, you're in favor of nationalized healthcare. The irony is that the quality of care you'd get now from a public hospital as someone who doesn't have health insurance is greater than it would be under a nationalized health care plan. Who wins? The government. The only difference is that private industry is competent and responsive because they need to be in order to remain competitive. Your government is neither competent, responsive, nor competitive. When they own your health, they will own you. Why all this trust in government all of a sudden from these 60's anti-establishment rejects? Nothing has changed.
