Full story: US News & World Report

This is hilarious. You never hear about "public support" for the 1st Amendment, or the 5th, or any others. This isn't a debatable subject. This is the law of the land, period. Whether someone supports it or not is irrelevant.

That is correct.

People who do not support the Constitution as written are treasonous to it.

Unless they can convene a Constitutional Congress to change it they should abide by it.

Treason is an emotive term. Perhaps you might agree that if people disagree with a part of the US Constitution, they are just being an honest citizen to say so? Unless one fears freedom of speech and what someone might say, one should wish to hear what responsible citizens honestly think.

But it isn't really possible to change the constitution before at least two thirds of the people in the USA are persuaded; and even then it might not be possible if there is a geographical imbalance and support for change was mostly consentrated in less than 66% of states...

The second amendment to the Constitution was adopted in 1791, 221 year ago. The US Constitution seems to be so highly regarded in the USA today that people don't even wish to question dated articles. Arguably, the legitimate political lengths that one must go to in order to change the constitution effectively renders it fossilised in the 18th century, doesn’t it?

The most recent change..
From:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-seventh_A...
The Twenty-seventh Amendment (Amendment XXVII) prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of the Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives. It is the most recent amendment to the United States Constitution, having been ratified in 1992, despite its initial submission 203 years prior.
