Just recently, I had some scrawny young punk try to rob me… I went for an evening walk and the idiot came up to me with a screw driver demanding my wallet… ON MY OWN STREET! Unfortunately for him, I had my Smith & Wesson 38 special in my right rear pocket instead of a wallet. If I only had a picture of his face to post here!! It was priceless… everyone could see what a REAL education to a teenager looks like… I’m hoping he learned his lesson…

And this is despite all his past shady dealings. If you want a quality gun at a decent price, go to Elmore's Firearms off 135 in Greenwood. I have bought several firearms and a lot of ammunition from them and have always gotten a good deal. FYI: I don't work for them. Just trying to save people a lot of money and trying to prevent this crook from getting any more business.“

Jack – I hear ya!! After I found Elmores in Greenwood, I wouldn’t buy a gun anywhere else!! They are just as interested in educating a customer as they are making a sale… Reasonable prices!! If someone is dumb enough to be buying a gun at Don’s Guns, it’s obvious they have no business owning one!!

IMPD Sgt. Paul Thompson needs to check himself. His "for the children" attitude will result in not having a firearm available when needed. What he should have said was "When you have a firearm in your home and have children you should be teaching them firearms safety. Responsibility will go much farther than locking away your self defense tools". I have the feeling that the good Sgt. would rather have a D.C. style gun ban than see citizens actually defending themselves. That would solve his problems.

The article points up something left unsaid,(all too often). The police are incapable of protecting the people of Indianapolis. Add to that the fact that they are not even legally required to render protection and you have the recipe for the current spike in crime and murder. The good folks arming themselves are doing what they must,(even if they are buying from Don's, rather than Albro or someone more reputable).

It sounds to me like many good citizens of Indianapolis have figured out that the police can't protect them and they've decided to take responsibility for their own safety. That's a good thing and as more people become armed criminals will think twice about kicking down a door. I sure wish the uneducated would stop using the phrase, "gun violence". The gun isn't violent. The correct phrase should be, "violent crime", unless of course there is an anti-gun agenda at work.

The problem comes down to our judicial system!
We need to line up all these thugs clean out the prisons and open up a firing squad! Truly people would think before they committed crimes if they new there were going to be severe consequences!
What do they get now? Free rent, food,tv,air conditioning, education, hell they only have to put up with visits from family once a month! Sounds like a great place to be to me!

Very good advice, Geezer. For home protection only, keep it simple with a break open shotgun. For a handgun, stick with a revolver, unless you are sure you will CLEAN an automatic pistol twice a month.

It warms my heart to hear Indy residents are growing balls. I hope they are seeking training for these firearm purchases. Safety first. And that includes target practice. You want to hit the criminal square in the torso (and/or head) but be cafreful not to miss and injur a bystander. SHOOT DRUGTHUGCRIMINALS IMMEDIATELY WHEN ATTACKED! Take back our streets. Save the courts the trouble. Save tax dollars spent on prison and courts. Give the thugs something to consider before they attack...something like getting their ath shot off!!! SHOOT CRIMINALS DEAD. If they moan after being shot...you have not done your job...yet.

A couple of pointers if you haven't already installed them...put your alram system on a inexpensive battery backup. This will keep your alarm active even if power is cut. Get a cellular backup on the system, as most break-in criminals know to simply cut the phone line and they have no cops to worry about...

Who is this moronic Sgt. Paul Thompson and does HE practice what he preaches? I would suspect not. Hey Paul, get a clue, a locked up firearm is of little use when gang bangers are busting through your door, about as useless as dialing 9-11.

So, let me ask this... why is it whenever someone needs to get an opinion from the Firearms community, they turn to Don Davis? A few years ago, the Indianapolis Star ran an expose on this man, citing him and his connections with the Mob, his questionable business practices, amongst his flamboyant media shots for destroying "assault rifles". You notice that he is the "voice" of firearms owners in Indianapolis, according to the local media.

I for one, am appalled. I wouldn't trust that man with a pencil, let alone a pistol. I wouldn't want him to speak for me, even if I was six feet under.

There are PLENTY of good, honest gun store owners in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. One only needs to grab a phone book, a black Sharpie, and cross out Don's number, THEN start looking.

Dialing 911 is a joke I have had to do this twice since moving to the city and both times I got a busy signal. Arm & Protect yourself because chances are the police aren't going to come till your dead if your lucky.

I've had really good luck with Bradis on Hwy 67 and Plainfield Shooting Supplies.

NO I KNOW WHAT THE STUPID ARTICLE SAYS! HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF GUNS THAT GET INTO THE WRONG HANDS. OBVIOUSLY, SINCE OUR MURDER RATE KEEPS GOING HIGHER! AND YES THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT DO GET GUNS FOR PERSONAL SAFETY AND ACTUALLY LEARN HOW TO PROPERLY USE THEM. THEN AGAIN, THERE WAS A GUY IN FRANKLIN RECENTLY TRYING TO USE A GUN TO STOP A HOME INVADER, AND GOT THE GUN WRESTLED AWAY FROM HIM AND ENDED UP GETTING SHOT WITH HIS OWN WEAPON! IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A WEAPON TO PROTECT YOURSELF, I'M FINE WITH THAT, BUT THERE SHOULD BE TIGHTER RULES ON WHOSE HANDS THOSE GUNS FALL INTO THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TIME AGAIN WHEN LUNATICS GET A HOLD OF A GUN!

straight from the first two paragraphs from this story...
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)- The rash of violence on Indianapolis streets has prompted some Hoosiers to find ways to stay safe. Some citizens are buying handguns. One Hoosier said he's not safe without one.
Metro detectives are working overtime to stop gun violence but at the same time, Hoosiers are buying more guns to stay safe.
Either you didn't read the article or you are just dumb/numb in the head.

Do you think that a criminal cares if the gun he is going to use to rob/kill someone with is legal. Most crimes are committed with stolen or otherwise nonlegally permitted guns.More laws don't help, more prison time for criminals is what is needed.I know the prison sentence will not prevent the crime but it sure helps cut down on the number of repeat offences.Hard to rob a VP when your sitting in prison cell.

My wife and my sons (13 and 17) all have their own firearms and are trained to be proficient with every weapon in our home. My 7 y/o daughter wants a pink AK when it is her turn to get a gun. I have never locked up my firearms, even when our children were small. That's as ridiculous as putting away all of your electrical outlets when you have children. If you discipline your children and teach them to respect firearms, just as you teach them to not mess with an electrical outlet, there will be no problems.

Considering that our kids' last "home defense" drill ran flawlessly and under 30 seconds, I would almost feel sorry for someone breaking into our home.

It is every parent's responsibility to care for their children, and that definitely includes teaching them how to defend and take care of themselves.

Oh what a happy home you must have. I wonder, do you 'target' people as the pass by, or only when they come to the door. Hopefully you have a high security fence and warning signs around your compound as a courtesy to your neighbors.
