Outdoor shooting range raises concerns

The lead contamination issue is a red herring.

The new neighbors don't like the noise. Apparently no one told them the "sounds of the country" consist of more than birds chirping.

I also find it hard to believe the skeet loads used are going to travel onto the neighbor's property.

Did you miss the part about birdshot diffusion? In other words, THERE'S NO LEAD BEING DUMPED IN THEIR YARDS FROM THE SHOOTERS.

Please, try speaking with somebody about this who shoots skeet. If you're lucky, they may even let you shoot at a few clays. You may even enjoy it.

According to my calculations, with a lead density of 11,340 kg/m3, this works out to about 1,413 cubic feet, or a cube 11.2 feet per side. That's a helluva lot of lead!

Lead is a good resale per pound.

Did you know that even spent primers can be collected and resold for recycle? I have a 5lb coffee can almost filled to the top and ready to be turned into cash.

I keep trying to figure out how to collect the lead out of the shooting range berms without destroying the berms.

The brass is a easy resale on the internet once tumbled and cleaned. You can pretty much find a buyer for any size as long as it is re loadable.
We just keep the ones we want to reload for our own guns.

I must respectfully disagree.

If you turn over a few rocks, if the journalists did the slightest amount of investigative work, they will find that well funded anti-gun groups are behind this effort. Just as they were in Florida; attempting to drive poorly financed Mom & Pop gun ranges out of business as a back door method to reduce gun ownership and harass the law abiding citizenry.

Florida passed laws to preempt this kind of disingenuous attack in 2007. As a result, our gun ranges have a layer of protection today.

Civilized society is the result of some dead guys 200 years ago with guns in this Country.
As for your title, gun control seems racist, it mostly targeted at urban areas where minorities live.

If you read the article, you will see that 5 guys shoot here. I happen to know the 2 they name in the article. They are business men (McMurran and Suttle) who could hardly shoot more than a couple hours a week. Frankly, I think the neighbors are opening a can of worms they don't want. The council will approve and there will be a lot more shooters out there.

Exactly! Over 50 tons of lead a year is an outright, overly exaggerated, lie. It would take a 40,000 man Army division to produce that much lead in a year.

Please do a little research. The lead is enert. Does not break down. Does not contaminate water. Lead ingested does affect living beings. Stomach acids and proteins will break it down and allow absorbtion. That is why the problem with geese and ducks, they eat it while feeding. Range lead no problem, brady bunch BS. Lead from firing primers can possible cause problem in small children, air borne, inhaled and absorbed. Adult, no problem, we have already lost our minds.
