You da man, Phil. ooops!? Frankly most TV announcers simply talk too much and too often. The occasional bon mot, a la "bikini waxed greens", is okay, but too much of a good thing is still too much (oops again), kind of like the excesses some announcers go to in describing a home run. Wouldn't it be nice to see great shots from some of the guys back in the pack too? I mean, geez, not everything Tiger hits is a thing of beauty, and he spits a lot. Nice work.

I get so sick of watching golf tournaments when Tiger Woods is within 5 shots of the lead. The coverage revolves around Tiger and not the 5 or 6 guys that have a better shot of winning (unless one of those people is Phil or Vijay). Cover the WHOLE tournament!!! Don't make every tournament Tiger plays in the TIGER SHOW if he's not having a great day.

I remember the good old days when they showed golf instead of documentarys. I think that most people are under the impression that only three or four players play this tournament. Come on - we put on the golf to see golf, not acouple of guys interested in presenting a documentary. Other golfers have fans to and would like to see them once in a while.

It sure is nice to know that I am not the only one who gets tired of too much tiger Phil or Vijay. There are too many up and coming stars in golf today and ther should be more attention paid to them as some of us would like to follow their careers also. It is a shame that there are so many golfers in the field and we get to see only a small handful.

The fact is that TV golf is a business. Tiger Woods is a MAJOR draw for TV ratings. If you are tired of 'too much Tiger,' then go watch the LPGA. Tiger Woods has won over 25% of the Majors that he has entered (professionally) so why wouldn't TV cameras cover what he does!? He has won 5 times this year, while only entering in 13 tournaments. Vijay has entered into 23 tourneys and has won only twice. Furyk has won only once, and Phil; twice. Tiger has earned every second of TV coverage he gets, and they do show other golfers as well. I get the feeling that some of you would like Tiger to not get any coverage. Get past the fact that Tiger is the best, and TV crews are going to cover it. If some lesser known golfer is to make a 'hole-in-one' they will get their 15 seconds in replays and commentary. On a side-note. The 8 minute documentary, and 25-minutes-of-every-hour's worth of commercials is killing golf. If they spent less time on commercials and talking about the differences in the way sand is crushed, then maybe they can focus on more than 4 golfers per day. Bring back the Masters with 56-minutes out of every hour golf!

I told a golf buddy to go home and after lunch tell his wife it was "nicely done" and see what her reaction is.....
I think tv does a pretty good job, except some of the swing annalysis get to be rediculous.
Johnny Miller, in my estimation is the best. He tells it like it is....

The television stations who provide golf fans with an opportunity to see the game of golf on TV do so by selling advertising spots. When Tiger is in a tournament, viewership spikes up sometimes by 100%, enabling that station to make revenues, which they can invest in showing golf tournaments that Tiger is not entered in.
So, if we take the advice of some of you, and remove the "Tiger Watch", the revenues will shrink for the stations, which would make them think twice about airing ALL golf tournaments.
So, you demand less Tiger, and will be rewarded with more WNBA games instead of the Tiger-less golf tournaments.
Dopes.

My point in an ealier column was that it would be nice to see more of the up and comers. They will someday be the ones drawing all the revenue from sponsers and it would be nice to see how they came through the ranks. Wanting a little more sense of how the younger guys are doing don't make us dopes.

It really does make you dopes because, if you were running the NBA when Jordan was on top, would you showcase lesser players who would one day be the next "Jordans" ?? Heck, maybe you would.
But the NBA has desperately done that with Kobe and LeBron and have failed miserably.
But the NBA was not stupid and rode the Jordan horse as long as they could, even after he was over his prime.
In the meantime, you want the PGA to stop showing their sport's version of "Jordan in his prime" to showcase Aaron Obelhauser ??
Yes, you are dopes.

Steve, you want us to get with the reality of the ratings and money angle as to why we see and hear so much of the Tiger. Challenge: Can you, for a moment, set that aside and now get with the equally valid reality that the glut of Tiger watch and Tiger talk and Tiger Time as Nance puts it, is nausiating and a piss poor job of covering a golf event? A witer from a few weeks back mentioned that the BBC coverage of the Open was like watching a different tourney when compared with the American feed we got. Good coverage can be done. Too bad the announcers we hear are in full Tiger --- kissing mode. To say anything negative would be sacreligious. It's pathetic!!
