AT&T field at Pebble Beach to be reduced

The PGA TOUR and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation announced that the TOUR's Policy Board today approved the reduction of the professional field for the 2010 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am from 180 to 156 players.

Who Cares. Obvious downsizing with the bloom off the rose for Pebble Beach. The money for the charities is more important than ever though. Improving the event with downsizing! Is Carl Rove doing the pr? Are there claims of weapons of mass destruction buried in the bunkers?

I am especially disconcerted and dismayed that MPCC is being added to the tournament. This club is known for its historic discrimination of disallowing non-whites from playing on the course. In fact, my Chinese co-worker was stopped at the front door when meeting a business client at the club house one day, and told to enter at the BACK door. And one of our black friends was once told he could not play there, though the reason was fuzzy, at best. However, the other 3 males in their foursome were greeted with warm welcomes. You guessed it - they were white.

Abuse of the label "Breaking News." It's just new news, not "breaking" news. Reserve "Breaking News" for some event that has big influence on a big number of people -- a big emergency, the death of a very VIP, some breakthrough by Congress or the Legislature, etc.
