USC trying to not overanalyze lopsided loss at Oregon

Full story: LA Daily News

Nearly a week later, USC continued to survey the wreckage from the obliteration in Oregon that punctured the image that the Trojans might occasionally lose but never get blown out.

I still think it's strange that not one person associated with USC football will explain:
a) What should the linebackers have been doing?
b) What the defensive ends should have been doing?
c) What scheme should have been used to prevent Masoli from running out of containment?
d) How Taylor may could have been used differently?

Instead we're getting this MouthSpeak mumbo jumbo. Can't talk about the past. Too complex a scheme. Players weren't able to react naturally? To do what ? Just tell me three things that could have been done more "naturally?"

Right on Bill in FLA. The reason we won't hear explanations is two-fold: the coaches are embarrassed that they actually DIDN'T make adjustments going into the game and the fact the media isn't smart enough to recognize what actually happened.

Even if they made the adjustments, they weren't mentally focused. USC Football needs to stop believing what they read (up until last weekend) and just play football.

A monumental loss for Southern Cal against Oregon University. The Trojans have been Pac-10 powerhouse since Carson Palmer led them to a Rose Bowl Championship in the early 2000's. Oregon has never had national coverage and USC has always owned the ducks. 2009 was different. For the first time in this decade the trojans did not have a veteraned quarterback and a defense that was unstoppable. Matt Barkley and the trojans came into Oregon with there national championship hopes still in place with only 1 loss on the year. THe game got out of hand for USC from the beginning. THe crowd was a huge factor and created many troubles for USC causing them to play out of their game. Allowing Oregon with the advantage. It was a terrible loss for USC and they need to brush it off. They have won many games and on the other end must lose some from time to time.

This coming game will tell us the rest of the season. This rah rah about complicated scheme will reveal itself this Saturday against the Devils. If it is true that they will be going back to the basics and just play good defense, I am sure it will show. If not, I think there are more serious issues with the defense. Perhaps the PAC-10 teams finally figured out Caroll's defensive magic?

We lost because of poor choice of offensive plays and defensive schemes, and then poorer execution. Bates being a QB coach, was calling QB plays, particularly the big pass plays, instead of sure plays to move the ball and use up the clock. The defense was not tackling individually but trying to hang on to the ball carrier, in hope of stripping the ball.
We did not lose the game due to inadequate athletic competitiveness. And what our players had to endure right on the field after the loss deserve a lot of respect from Trojan fans like us.

I agree. Just put 8 in the box and force Oregon to pass. Taylor can play any of the linebacker spots anyway. Why was that so hard to figure?? Incredible.

Everything is about what SC did or didn't do. How about giving credit to Oregon on what it did, not assuming that they would be pushovers.

I want to know what Quack Quack thinks about the Oregon loss to Stanford. He/she along with alot of other class-less Duck fans ran so much smack and trash talk over there USC victory. Following suit they lost the very next week. Oregon still has Arizona on the road and a surging Oregon State team in the annual civil war. I would not be in least surprized if the Duck lost one or both of those games. Can't wait til the Ducks come into our house next year for some payback!
