Press Box: Who's looking out for Wie?

Isn't anyone looking out for Michelle Wie's well-being? The first time I saw Michelle Wie play, she was a 13-year-old with her dad on the bag and her mom just outside the ropes.

Let's hope she doesn't follow the path of John Daly. Perhaps, Wie team now realizes that college and golf do not work in the real world of pro golf. She must decide, at least for now, either college or pro golf. With her talent, I believe college can wait. "Q" school would be a good start and good for her.

The last line express my sentiments exactly. Michelle may have a bigger task ahead, to live the rest of her life after the long fall from grace.

Put the blame squarely on the shoulders of her ambitious and money-hungry parents who have lived up to all the negative stereotypes that surround Koreans in Hawaii and America.

Team Wie, thanks a lot.

The Wie saga has been, and continues to be, thoroughly nauseating...

I said this yesterday, team Wie reminds me of the parents of child actors in the 20's and 30's exploiting then stealing from their children.

She needs to move out, drop out of the tour and go to college for four years. If she still wants to play golf she needs to distance herself from "team Wie" as far as humanly possible and be her own person.

Wie needs to emancipate herself from her parents. She is 18, but apparently not mature enough to make it on her own OR to take a stand against her parents.

Q school is what she needs. Sponsorships need to be forgotten for now, and parents need to let a professional handle her "professional" career.

So what happens to the $10 million she's already gotten? Does she give any of it back because she hasn't lived up to expectations?

Everyone knows Wie's parents still pull the strings and it is past time to let the pros call the shots. Her parents moving to be near her at Stanford was bad enough. Let Michelle grow up and be an adult.

Not sure if I agree with the LPGA mishandling Wie's scorecard. My understanding of the situation is Michelle was chased down out of the Scorecard area to sign her card. If that is the case, there must have been someone in Wie's camp that at the very least, suspected a rules violation on her part. Could it be they, including Michelle chose to ignore the obvious infraction and played on hoping nobody would notice? I know this is a tough gut call for anyone to make, however, if Michelle or her Parents chose to call the infraction on themselves I would have newfound enormous respect and not shame for the Wie family. After all, the game is based on personal honor.

Some of the rules of golf are as ridiculous as they get, and even seasoned pros like Craig Stadler has done something they thought was OK, only to be snake-bitten by some of these asinine rules of golf.

I even remember Annika playing out of order during the Solheim cup and chipping in, only to be told by Dottie Pepper that she played out of order and had to play the shot over, after Dottie played her first! Annika cried then as Michelle cried last Sat.

As a professional and a seasoned tournament golfer Michelle should know to sign her card. The rules are the same for all tournaments, forget to sign a score card (or sign an incorrect card) and you pay the price.

As far as implying that Michelle or someone in her camp knew she forgot to sign the card, I don't believe it. She simply forgot to sign and was chased down too late by the people in the scoring tent.

She made another mistake in a long line of mistakes. Hopefully she files this away and uses it as a learning experience rather than letting this define who she is.

Have to admit feeling sad for Wie. At the same time I have nothing but contempt for the greedy, control freak helicopter parents who seem to micromanage her with no concept how much damage they are doing. It may be that the strictures of Korean family life prohibit this young woman from finding herself as a professional golfer and businesswoman.

Totally Wrong! Nike don't give a rat's a.. with WHOM or WHAT she plays with. I would think there's just as much money, if not more, to be made in women's apparel and golf products (especially in the Asian market) IF she's successful. Besides, you're not sticking to the main points of this post.

I'm not sure what they're like now, but I did see a little of the pressing from the mom the last time I golfed with her.
I'm sure she'll eventually learn to stand on her own as she gets older and matures more.

Don't comment on Korean family stricture or structure if you know nothing about it. As an ethnic group, Koreans are a leading success story in the US. I'm a first generation Korean and it just makes me mad as hell when I see all these idiotic, racially stupid comments.
