A New York columnist's report that Vernon Presley, father of Memphis singer Elvis Presley, plans to marry soon was denied yesterday by friends of the family. In a syndicated column published in newspapers Saturday, Dorothy Kilgallen wrote, "Down in Memphis, the natives are buzzing over the rumor that Elvis Presley's pop -- a widower, will waltz down the aisle with an attractive matron." Earl Greenwood, a close friend of the Presleys, said last night that he had been in close and constant touch with them and he hadn't learned of wedding bells in the offing. He said he felt certain the rumor was unfounded. well, that shows how well the Greewood guy was ever in the loop |
