I'm sure most of you read in the Sunday edition of the Southern Standard that two men were recently convicted of possessing 50 pounds of marijuana. The amount alone was funny but what was even funnier was the fact that the two suspects only received probation for their crime. My one main question is: How much pot does a person have to get caught with in order to receive jail time. Obviously, it's more than 50 pounds. Is it 75 pounds or 100 pounds? I really don't understand how these two men aren't spending at least the next year in jail. Fifty pounds is alot of pot. You know in some foreign countries a conviction of a drug crime is punishable by death. I'll wager those countries don't have the problems with drugs that we have in this country. Just throwing this out there to see what others think about it.

I was dumbfounded. also. about the sentencing...well, non-sentencing of these two men. What an example for anyone searching for a way to make a quick buck..stay in the 50 lb range, and you can sell your product here with no fear. In this world where drugs are destroying so many lives...how in the name of justice can this happen?

Does marijuana destroy lives ? I would say Crack, and Heroin, Cocaine, Meth, Ice destroy lives. If they had had a huge amount of any of those, I imagine they would have gone to jail for a very long time.

The jail here is probably too full to be putting people in there who have dealt marijuana.

I'd rather drive down a highway with everyone around me high on pot, than have one drunk driver on the loose any day. I'm sorry I don't find marijuana that offensive. Just seems to mellow people down instead of wire them up like the others seem to do.

I get the point that you are trying to make and I actually do think it would be bad if it were legalized. However I do think you've brought up another question. If the two men were caught with 50 pounds of meth would they have gotten jail time then? My point is that if a person gets caught with 50 pounds of pot then they should get some jail time. The two men were probably as shocked as I was when they just received probation. Even they had to be expecting jail time for their crime. I don't know if some kind of deal was struck with them but some minimum jail time should have been a requiremtent. Some people will never learn from their mistaked if they are not held accountable and in my opinion these two men were not held accountable. They basically got away with a crime.

what I have heard is that the person that had it is related to a ex police cheif so they let him go with a slap on the hand.. Warren County needs to step up and be a judge no matter if you know someone or are sleeping with them.. people turn bad as the econemy get worse so will all the stealing and dealing drugs. be a judge or let someone else do it and hiring someone that has not lived in Warren County forever...
