Gambling ring busted in Pocahontas

Full story: KAIT-TV Jonesboro

A gambling ring was busted thanks to the community's efforts. "An anonymous phone call, and then getting people to come forward to report something like this," Detective Arvin Volner says, "That's what helps law enforcement get things like this solved." I watch the Kait8 news and seen a report on Pocahontas about a gambling house bust. My question is, "Who did they arrest"? Was it more than one? I have heard there are alot more playing cards at other places. They buy chips with cash and when they want to cash in, you can buy the chips back.. Is that legal?

Ask the sheriff why, this was in the city, and gambling is gambling. All the other places are in the county, outside the city limits. The law is to be enforced, not overlooked........

Its like I have been telling you people , some folks can and some folks can't in Pokie. The folks that run Pokie always want law and order, BUT not for them, they are above it. There has been more than one cop fired for arresting the wrong person. I feel safer knowing somebody playing cards is arrested while dopers run around free, stealing everything that isn't nailed down.

Don't try to dump this on the Sheriff. Everyone knows common practice is to report crime in the city to the Pocahontas Police Department or Chief of Police. Don't just assume there is Gambling in the county, if you know of something specific, report it to the Sheriff's Department. Otherwise quit farting in the wind.

WTF does that have to do with a "gambling ring" being busted in the city? Just asking?

I think the new CID guy put the cart before the horse on this one!!! The owner Russell was having supper in front of pool hall. The poker players in back were 12 men usung poker chips not money...In fact their was no money in the room except their own in their wallets...NO MONEY ON THE TABLE!!!!!(ONLY POKER CHIPS..BOUGHT AT WAL_MART) The money the police took was 500.00 dollars Russells paycheck as a construction worker, 250.00 dollars operating pool hall, sales from selling pool sticks, oh yes money from the cherry machines. Money from Mrs.Russels purse. The cherry machines belong to a man from Jonesboro who also has arcade games for kids in the front of pool hall. so, why was'nt the man in Jonesboro arrested? The one man that was sitting in front of a machine was sitting sideways talking to another when police entered..not playing the machine. THIS CASE NEEDS TO BE THROWN OUT!!! Go after the real crimmals. and try to protect our kids from the drugs and booze that our kids are really influnced by.

u guys really have to life do u...think of one thing you can do in this town...other then buy food or cloths. wtf does it matter, its only the 12th time the poolhall has been busted for gambling. the only reason anything happened is b/c it fell under new management and the previous owner got jelous when they told him that he couldnt run the card game any more...its not the point of gambling but the point of being able to go out and do something. besides didnt arkansas jus recently vote for a lottery...its all the same, jus b/c poky isnt getting its share of the profit doesnt mean they had to arrest ppl for it, its a MISDORMENOR!!!

These small towns in Arkansas are filled with dope and pedophiles and yet we focus on small gambling ring. I am not saying they should overlook the law, but I see bigger deals made over gambling.

I think a lot of counties want to know an answer to this because this is a problem throughout the surrounding counties as well.
