Can anyone help me? I've been all over the internet ripping my hair out over this stupid tap to click bs.
I've tried everything I could find on the issue [other than downloading the Toshiba Alps driver, because my computer is an Acer Aspire 2525]. I called the tech support from my computer and the woman on the phone cheerily informed me that I could pay $99.00 USD to have them help me, and I just don't have that money. I have taken extensive screen-caps of everything I've done so far, and you can see them by following this link. >> http://s682.photobucket.com/albums/vv181/knig... The last image is the first thing I tried an the screen-caps go in order, so just click on the last one and cycle through backwards. |

ok.. so my model number and product number wont come up on any of the links posted in the comments. I have a Toshiba A215-s7462. It came with Vista but I uploaded windows 7. I cant not find anywhere to uncheck tap to click. Heck, the devices dont even list a touchpad its listed as a ps/2 compatible mouse. I tried to uninstall the driver and it prompts me to restart my computer to finish the changes, but when I restart, it automatically installs the driver again. HELP.. every time I type it clicks the pointer to where it was last.

Hey,
So I had actually found the same solution as Lyric, and all was good. A few weeks later, it's all happening again, AND the synaptics pointing device in no longer in the "hidden icons" box on the taskbar....???!! WTF?? Anyone any ideas? I have a Sony F11 running Win 7. It's an ALPs pointing device, so dunno if I need to re-install something else? The driver is showing as up to date... |

I have a toshiba tablet with a recent upgrade to windows 7 here is how I finally got it to work: Open the control panel, use the upper box to search for Mouse. Under Ease of Access click on: "Change how your mouse works." That will open a window with options for the crusor. Then scroll down the bottom under "see also": Mouse settings. This will bring up Mouse properties, but now the box will have an advanced tab. Click on this tab(Advanced). Now Click on "advanced feature settings". Click on the "settings" box for "pointer speed and tapping settings". unclick the enable tapping and then apply. This worked for me. I also changed many of the other features in the advanced features settings to make it work better. good luck

Laptops touch pad is easy to use and we can move the cursor on it just by moving the finger on the touch pad.
You can turn off tap to click by pressing the function and the touch pad button. Thankyou. Mariah... |
Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!! THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE IT IS AND WORKED WONDERFULLY!!! You've saved me a ton of searching and headaches!! Thank you so much! |

I found the solution on my acer aspire one netbook after updating to win7 from starter. I found that the upgrade installed a usb mouse driver OVER the synaptic drivers i just uninstalled them went to control panel then mouse it instantly asked me to restart again i did, the synaptic drivers came back. look in the hidden system tray icons.

the touch-to-click feature has been driving me crazy for the past 2 days and as much as i tried mouse settings, i couldnt find the way to turn off touch to click. finally i just opened up my computer's (C:) drive. under that, i went into the "Drivers" folder, and clicked on "input". then i clicked on the only folder in input, which lead me to yet another folder, called Vi64. i clicked on that, and found the application "DellTPad" or "Apoint". both files took me to the same place, and then allowed me to turn off all the irritating features on the touchpad. i can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

This is such a simple problem that takes so long to solve!! I recently bought a ACER and have been plagued with this problem. I have to search 'Mouse' in the control panel, then click one of the options taking me to a page with a few tabs on, I then had to click on 'ELAN' click options and then 'Tapping' to turn it off. Took me ages to find. This helped me in the right direction though :)

Thank you! That was driving me bonkers! |

I have a Toshiba A305-S6905 / Windows7 and have been battling this same issue. All paths to the adjustable settings are non-existent. I cannot even turn off tapping, although that is not my desire. I would like to reduce the sensitivity and maintain the use of the touchpad when needed. Thanks for any help.

I'm running an old Fujitsu B2000 laptop with Windows XP. I've installed the latest Synaptics drivers but I can't find any option to disable "tap to click" anywhere under Control Panel/Mouse. I have turned this off successfully on an older version of Windows/older version of the driver so I'm not sure why its disappeared now.
Help! |
