Hello, I'm hoping someone can please tell me that my Ipod is alright after this, so here it goes:
I don't really remember dropping my ipod or it getting hurt in any physical manner. But one day I was putting some music on it from my itunes application and I didn't realize one of my songs was corrupted. When the Ipod went to play the corrupted song, it of course froze up. I deleted the song off of my itunes, then synced it with the ipod. Everything was fine again, except for one thing... Everytime I select a media file to play, the ipod makes a strange noise. It seems to sound similar to that of a disk loading in your disk drive; though it doesn't sound too happy about it. I've read around, and people claiming this problem or, at least, something similar, had malfunctioning hardrives. I really hope that is not the case, I don't want to send my Ipod Classic to Apple after having it for only two weeks! So, if someone could help clear this little delima of mine, I would be truely grateful. |

Hi dude, i just read ur post, well i just bought my i pod classic as well just about a week or 2 ago too, n well i'll tell u the truth, the noise is indeed of the hard drive loading it's nothing to worry about. mine has the same noise, but is workin in mint condition n i havent droped it once so ur's is fine too, ur only hearing the noise now cuz u must have just noticed it, usually it takes a week or 2 to notice all such things. so all in all, dont worry, there shudnt b anything wrong with ur ipod, the noise must be cuz of the huge disk space it has!

My IPOD Classic 80gb was making noises and stopping playing after almost every song. I tried the reset procedure but it resulted in the Apple logo permamently displayed. I took it to an Apple store where the tech told me the hard drive was broken. They swapped it for a new one. It's surprising the HD only lasted 1 month.

I accidently pulled the plug out of my iPod without ejecting it and now whenever I try to charge it, my iPod makes a weird sound. I'm not sure if the hard drive is broken or anything but it won't show up on my computer when I plug it in. Can someone please help me??

I bought an ipod classic(160) and it was working fine at first. no weird sounds or anything (well except for the lag problem when scrolling but i'm fine with that.) anyway, but after using it for a week, i hear weird sounds coming from the back of my ipod and it kinda vibrates in your hands when loading videos (hard disk spinning)!
it's very annoying!! and i'm 100% sure i didn't drop it!! |

I turned it of, and it kept on. I tried resetig it, the appl logo appeared, and then a red crossed out circle appeared that told me to go apple.com/suport . at one poin, myipodclassic was going from song to song very quickly, but sound won't play i'm so scared about my ipod, whato i do?

I am having this same strange noise with my iPod Classic 160 - however, it only seems to be when I place it into a Teac docking station. It is very obvious that is it HD noise and static, as it only occurs when seeking to a new track. It settles down after about 5 to 10 seconds. I suspect the noise is caused wheniPod is buffering the data from the HD; once the data has been read and buffered, the noise disappears. Very easy to duplicate by repeatedly hitting the next track button, forcing it to seek to the next track and start reading from the HD.
At first I thought it was the Teac unit, but I have tried 5 others and they are all the same. I also took my iPod to the Apple store and tried it in several of their docking stations, and it did not produce the noise. Then I took my daughter's 80 GB iPod Classic and tried it in my Teac, and it did not produce the noise. So, the bottom line is that I still do not know if the ipod or the teac is at fault. |

Yeah well beat this. I have had my 30gb ipod classic for almost 2 years and it worked perfectly until 1:30 in the morning. It makes weird noises, plays 20 seconds of a song, takes 15 minutes to change 1 screen, and to top it all off...No sad face. Its not sad...its dead.

I've had my ipod classic 160GB for 2 weeks now and it has made strange noises from the beginnning.
it sounds like a sigh, first it sounds like he's working very hard for something and then it sighs. sorry for the weird description, but it's the only way I can describe these sounds. It makes these sounds when you scroll through library, but sometimes even when I scroll through settings. I've been back to the place i bought the ipod and they replaced it with a new one, but after synchronizing all my songs, it makes exactly the same sounds. I don't know whether I do something wrong with it, or the ipods were just both wrong. I tried to reset the ipod, I also deleted all songs from it. It made less noise when it had no songs, but after putting on 10 songs it made the noise again. Any ideas? |
