Hold down the middle button along with the menu button for 6 seconds and see if it will reset. Then reconnect the ipod and attempt to eject it.

I'm not sure what to do if you have a mac, but if you have windows go to My Computer and there should be an icon labled iPod or something then (G:), right click that and then click "eject" and that should take care of your problem. Besides if you just unplug the ipod, it doesnt do anything, it just says not to eject so that it can finish updating it, no matter what you're doing, its going to say do not disconnect.

same thing is happening to me! And it's not the ejecting problem. It's the fact that it can't update. I'm so frustrated.

There should be a little symbol in iTunes that looks like the "paus" symbol on a DVD player but the top part of it is a little arrow head instead of a straight bar. Click on it...

I have tried and tried to reset it by holding the menu key and the middle button but it still will not recognize it in Itunes. I am so irritated, it just turns back on and goes right back to saying, "Do not disconnect." Any other suggestions! I want it to update it, but it just won't do anything.

You may never see this, but you saved us a trip to the Apple Genius. Thanks!

My ipod is recognised in itunes and it tells me that everything is updated but when I check the new songs etc are not on there. Also, I cannot get rid of the 'do not disconnect' sign. I've tried holding down the menu & middle button but it didn't solve the problem. I also tried turning it to 'disk mode' and updating but this didn't work either. Can anyone help? PLEASE?

I had a problem that sounds the same, what worked for me was adding the songs then closing itunes then reopening it and it would download the new songs. And for the do not disconnect sign are you unplugging it when you try the Menu+middle?
