Big red X on ipod classic

i recently plugged my ipod into my Xp computer and itunes said my ipod was corrupt and i should restore or try disconnecting and reconnected. I disconnected and now itunes wont recignize it. when i turn it on i get a large red circe with an X in the middle. i have tried to put it in disc mode but it just goes back to the red x. I want to restore it but it wont connect to my computer so im not able. i tried messing with diagnostic mode but no luck. please help

I have just the same problem. I went to apple.com and it says to put it on idsk mode, but it doesn´t work. I read that there is only one think else to do: let it discharge completly and then charge it again. Wish you luck.=(

Same thing happened to me just dont panick :) put it on charge and leave it .soon (hoepfully)it will work again!!! GOOD LUCK

SOMEONE ! needs to help me ASAP ! this fucking ipod is ticking me off.. there's a stupid red X that comes up..! when i went to put more songs on it .. it was installing them onto the ipod and then the stupid X came up and now its been there for like a month or so.! i really need help.. i can't survive without my music !. HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!

I charged it... then it came back good as new.
Everything was there,no problems and BTW(by the way) I charged it for around...2-4hrs.

I cant let the battery die when the dumb thing wont stay on. Also my ipod shuts off right after the red x shows for about 5 minutes. so how does it charge when it shuts itself off?

allright i have the same problem and i know how to get it to discharge, reset it then right when you see the apple logo hold previous and center.
then it will take you to the whole systems analysis bullshit that they do when you send it in, just go auto test and DONT continue, it wont auto shut off cause of the mode its in. thats what im doing right now.

hopefully this works. i got it to the screen you were talking about (mike) now im just waiting for it to die. then i charge it right? and its just supposed to work or what? thanks for the helpful info so far

Yeah im trying to run it out of battery right now hopefully it works

When it goes into auto mode does it shut off as soon as possible or do you have to wait a while

apple told me to go here. I can't get mine into disk mode, so they are saying I have to send it in.

i stabbed mine with a knife. . . .

i opened mines and the ribon type wire connected from ipod to hardrive was loose...sooo red x gone!

yeah my ipod started being retarded 2 weeks ago and I cant get it fixed but, i went on to itunes and I held the select and menu button till the apple came up twice and then a window popped up and said you need to download apple recovery software so i did then i repaired itself back to normal it took me a long time to fix this. it took me the entire 2 weeks till now to figure out i need to go to an apple retailers. best of luck!

also when the second apple pops up then you let go of the select and menu button.

i have the same problem but when i go to idsk what do i do next? it doesnt register in itunes and i have a red x!
