on windows vista, btw
this problem 'coincidentally(?)' occured immediately following my update to itunes 7.7.
my itunes works great. my iPod works great. previously they were a match made in heaven, but follwing the latest upgrade i suddeny cannot sync my iPod. whenever i plug it i, my iPod screen gets stuck on the 'connecting' screen and freezes my itunes. but it does show up in 'my computer' still. after i manually eject my iPod, itunes gives me an error msg: "cannot sync 'jason's iPod' because required folder cannot be found" at the behest of the apple people, i have uninstalled and re-installed itunes a few times and they have even suggested i 'start over' and restore my iPod, but i hesitate for 2 reasons: i have stuff on my iPod that is only on my iPod and also, it still syncs fine with my computer at work, which has not been updated to 7.7 yet. any help? has anybody experinced or heard of this particular error. i have about a hundred new songs in my itunes i'm dying to listen to, please help!!!

I've had same issue - I'm on XP (sp2). Problem started after 7.7. I've tried all the "fixes" I could find on the web and no change. Help?!?

I am having the exact same problem as Jason. I have done the "5 R's" and even had my iPod replaced with a new one by apple (suspecting they couldn't slove the problem). But even now, with a completely new iPod, Windows (Vista) recognizes the iPod (as it did previously), but iTunes does not. The iPod displays that it is connected, but does not appear in the iTunes source list! Then, as soon as I disconnect the iPod (as there's no other way) then suddenly it appears and several error messages come up saying: "Jarad's iPod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." !!! This is so fustrating!!!! Is there anyone out there who can help?

more good news ;( if some of u wanna try similar things to further frustrate yourselves. so not only does my iPod wrok on my other computer, but other iPods work on my computer! there is a unique problem only between MY itunes and MY iPod. in other words, nothing is wrong, but nothing is right. i'm gonna pull out my hair! or maybe symbolically smash some apples in my backyard!!
somebody's gotta stumble on something soon, guys!

I just got this problem as well and have found nothing that helps elsewhere online or through apple. I also believe it has something to do with windows XP and the new 7.7 version, since most people with the problem have this setup. I will post anything i find out.

Judged:

"Right click on your iTunes folder, unselect read only and click apply. Select option to apply to all subfolders and files. Do the same for any picture folders or anything else you are trying to sync."

I found this in another topic. Seems to have worked for most people. Not for me, so please still help!

I re-installed 7.6 as I could no longer connect my Ipod to my computer when I installed 7.7.

lepht or xangelx;

did downgrading back to 7.6 fix the prob?
i'm not sure if that's a viable option for me since i have to have 7.7 for the new iPhone, but i am curious whether it works...

i'm also considering getting a podshare program and dumping my iPod to a different computer and starting over. not my preference tho if anybody is close to any answers yet.
