Oh come on! Our country has bigger problems. Why don't these lawmakers do something more useful rather than debating about the use of cellphones in schools. Freakin stupid!

Rod is right! besides this matter is something for the School Districts to handle. Doesn't the "National Government have More Pressing Matters to take care of??"Yes Cell Phones should be Picked up at the Door and returned after Class, anyone cought with a cell Phone during a test should be given a "0" for that test and detension for sneeking the Phone into the room. 20 or 30 day notice to the pearents then implamented eith NO Exsemsions! Yes, I am a Pearent and sadly this may be the only to solve this Problem unless there are better ideas out there."Are There Better Ideas Out There??

It is quite simple and easy to understand for both students and parents. Using a cellphone during school hours results in a 30 day confiscation of the cellphone for the first offense. Confiscation for the remaining portion of the school year for the second offense. Get the message you giggling texting addicts! Oh but, you have a postpaid cellphone, SO WHAT!!!

I would like to comment on this, Confiscating a cell phone for 30 days is illegal in the United States, The school could be sued for not returning the cell phone. They are basically stealing property. Cell phones cost money every month, if the school is going to keep the phone, they can pay the bill. If anyone kept my child's phone, I'd be contacting my lawyer.

I am an American and cell phones here are mainly used for texting with a pre-paid load. A clever scheme has been developed with the cellphone in silent mode and in a pocket texting can be accomplished to even get answers on a test. In my state, I have heard of cellphones being taken and picked up in the school office and the end of the day. Anyway a cellphone is not really the issue. The government needs to address overcrowded classrooms. 45/1 or more student/teacher ratio is not good.

i think..

it should not be done.
'cause cell phone is important in communicating.. if they are going to confiscate cellphones, just get those who used it improperly..

This issue should be worked out between the school and student/parents. Government need not be involved and should concern themselves with more pressing issues. As for cellphone use by students in school, it is a courtesy thing. Keep it silent or turn it off. School is for learning and a cell phone would just disrupt the class. Teachers on the other hand should remind students to observe the rules or school policy at the begining of the class so that absent minded students can turn their cellphones off or put them on silent. Plus it could be used as a tool for cheating or malice.

I agree. If kids insist on bringing them to school they should have to hand them in during school hours. It's not necessary for kids to have phones with them during class time, even if they have them so that they can cal for a ride after school, or for safety reasons.

A few years ago it would have been considered madness that kids need to have a phone at all.
