The Boss Speaks

Full story: blog.chryslergroupllc.com

While no video was permitted during the daylong rollout of the Chrysler Group LLC 2010-2014 Business Plan, our cameras were rolling as President and CEO Sergio Marchionne strolled over the media room afterwards to take questions from reporters.

he painful reality for Chrysler is that it is far behind its domestic competitors, which means it is behind every other car company too. This in a global market that has no time for laggards and excuses. Chrysler sales numbers are pitiful, and its quality performance is flat-out inexcusable.

Chrysler has a reputation of being a perennial loser, thanks to gross mismanagement by Daimler and Cerberus compounded by a very publicly-financed bankruptcy that cannot and will not be fixed overnight. Yet Sergio and his troops actually believe all of this is going to get fixed with a creative five-year plan?

I'll put it succinctly for you: No frickin' way.

with all the stress the 'boss' is gonna take on while trying to turn water (Chrysler) into wine, coupled with the 'bosses' serious smoking habit as indicated by his problem breathing at the podium and beyond, it's my guess the 'boss' will be dead within three years.

educated guess

Don't pay any attention to people like this. He has obviously spent his whole life being a pessimist and has nothing better to do than to sit around and put his two cents worth into something he knows nothing about.

A pessimist maybe but just how many 2,3,4,and 5 year plans have we had over the last 12 years? All of them said the same thing profitability with in a couple years and a bright futher. But still here we are with yet another 5 year plan that promises the same as the 10.

But look who the CEO's were. Sergio turned Fiat around so maybe he can turn Chrysler around. He at least deserves a chance. It's only been 5 months since the marriage. You can't have a baby in 5 months!

Actually, none of the other plans were as detailed and comprehensive as this one. If there's a chance to get it done, these are the guys to do it. A little positive thinking wouldn't hurt any of us.

Hey i'm willing to give it a chance thats why i'm still here and havent takin a buyout and I hope like hell it works. But I dont think you can call this "plan" all that "detailed and comrehensive". They still have said whats being built or where it will be built beyond 2012 for the most part. The last time I checked this was a five year plan not a 2 year plan!!

I am sorry Dieter Zeutche was a great leader, and so was Wolfgang. So it doesn't take just a great leader.

This was a plan meant for the media and the public to attempt to dispel rumors, inspire confidence in the new methods and show that work is being done. In that regard it was comprehensive, detailed, and very well done. It was not a presentation geared to employees and therefore you didn't get the details you were looking for. That wasn't the purpose and those details will no doubt come later but they're certainly not going to schedule a 6 hour press conference to release production specifics. Employees are the only ones who care about that. Sad but true. It's a business first, and foremost on the agenda is to work toward changing public perception so they even have a chance at survival. Did you read the entire presentation? If you did you should feel some hope in that a truly comprehensive analysis of this company from the ground up has been and continues to be done.

To Guess Who: The Germans were good leaders and astute business men but they were also coming from a place of perceived superiority and, they were taking over a cash rich company. Big difference. These folks are scrappers and they're experienced in clawing they're way out of deep holes. Time will tell.

I really don't have a doubt that chrysler will make it. It is just how much of the US manufacturing will be left. Sergio is a scrapper, and if you follow his previous dealings, you do not cross him, or bluff him. He will do whatever it takes to oust you at that point. The bad part for the employees is I see 3 or maybe 4 US assembly plants, then he will either transform the parts plants to non core, or he will shut them down. Look at the Fiat work with CNH, and this was in a field that wasn't nearly as competitive as the auto world.

So basically if you want core wages you will be at an assembly plant. Seems that those who chose the detroit labor market won't be relocating.
I also see him handing the retirement over to the international UAW, just like the VEBA. That way they can say, "here you deal with it"

He dumped Neon to pave the way for Smart Car and for that he should be emasculated.

Chrysler's Hyper-Inflated Aspirations.
For those guys to get up in front almost 400-something analysts and media-types last week and suggest with a straight face that they're going to sell enough vehicles to capture 14 percent of the market by 2014 is flat-out ludicrous. Insane even. The realistic number? It will be between 6-7 percent, tops. With dismal quality numbers, a woeful, out-of-touch presence in the market, highly questionable strategic positioning and new - and painfully bad - advertising that does absolutely nothing to revitalize the image of any of the brands, it's notgonnhappen.com . Or as Dr. Bud says, "That dog won't hunt even with a T-bone wrapped in prosciutto." These guys are dreaming. The problem is that we have to be subjected to the gushing coverage of Chrysler by some of the lesser lights in our local media for the foreseeable future. And that's a heaping, steaming bowl of Not Good. What should Chrysler be aspiring to? Survival. And they have an excellent shot at that, if they don't hype themselves to death first.- PMD

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Sagittarius

Watch out. Your mind is working overtime in full analytical mode, but you may be leaping to unfounded conclusions and reading too much into situations. The result of all this is that you might start to suspect someone's honesty or loyalty, and wonder what exactly they're up to. Don't accuse them of anything awful just yet because it may turn out that you were totally wrong about them.
