My father was a superintendant on friant dam in the 40's. the flat above madera canal was a tent city for many workers including us. We had a lot of army type tents set up. In the school year starting in 40 i was 5 years old. the school house was a 1 room at the foot of table mountain. it was still there in 1959 when I left Friant.they let me start early cause they needed 1 more student so we could have 2 teachers. lol.
one of the bigger boy's killed a rattlesnake in the out door toilet. In 41 they let us come down to a school(more like a bus barn) on burroughs st.
It later bacome a bus barn when the construction co. on the dam built a new 4 room school. at top of the hill where new stands now.If you would like any more info on friant in the early days please write me.
