YOU are an interesting character OVILLAGE.

But I think you missed the point Mr. Sunshine has been making. I dream about writing as well as he does. He is a true wordsmith.

He is giving you real life examples of his experience with various people in this City. Some of them happen to be in the Lopez family.

Please don't be bamboozled by some of the people on this forum that may not always have your personal agenda at heart -- i.e., "You wanna get along and have Orange Cove be successful." And nobody will disagree with that.

And both Mr. Sunshine and I and others have admitted that good things have happened while Victor Lopez has been mayor. He has been there for 30 years, which he reminds the town of at EVERY City Council meeting.

With all of the MILLION$ of Dollar$(good ‘ole TAXPAYER’s) put in play by both the State and Federal governments over these many years to "help underserved communities", and if you can breath, walk and chew gum at the same time -- you can get bunches of money and build stuff.

Some of the infrastructure stuff filters ditch water, made available by another BIG group of TAXPAYERS at a very low cost.

Some of the infrastructure liquefies all of the stuff from your toilet, sinks, shower, etc., and pumps it out into fields to sink into Mother Earth.

In some of the infrastructure stuff you can hold meetings at, play baseball, soccer, and other games.

Some of the infrastructure stuff you can use to create jobs for friends and family.

And all of this stuff gets done because HUNDREDS of people from your City are involved. The citizens attended countless meetings. Ride buses to Sacto to meet with politicos. They prodded the County Board of Supervisors to get things done. And you [mayor] don't really need to know how the stuff works, because you have other people to worry about that. You can tell people how you obtained $50 million of Grants and never even fill out one sheet of paper -- hired hands do that for you.

Then you stack the City Council with all the right people, who never question what you say, and they always vote the "right way".

And ALL those YEARS you avoid telling all these people about another TAXPAYER supported agency where you have been on the payroll for all these 30-odd years. Many other local politicos (elected officials in the other 10 or so small towns in the County) could not figure out how Victor Lopez could spend 30 or 40 hours a week being mayor of OC and still make a living. The secret is, you get this other “agency” to pay you a salary (currently about $50K/year cost to taxpayers) that many/most do not know anything about. And one of the really neat parts about this arrangement,(now don’t tell anybody this), but you don’t really have to go to work – anywhere. Ya get to do what you choose, when you want to, and anything you want to do. Now that is really KOOL, right?

And then some of those old Council Members have an epiphany and realize; "I have helped create a situation that will eventually bit me in the Butt!!"

And it did.

And they recovered.

And have now learned what "service to the public is all about".

First, OVILLAGE, you miss the point entirely. This discussion is not about who's family is better. That's not the issue. If Victor Lopez dug dirches for a living these past 30 years, there would be no questioning of his ethics, or poor behavior in the public eye, or nepotism. His sons would not be an issue, as they would not be on the city payroll collecting money for doing next to nothing. Maybe they would still be arrested for being thugs, but it would not be at the city's expense. You get it, you just don't want to admit it.

So what did I win? Seems I HELPED to educate others about the wrongs being foisted upon our fair city by folks who deem it to be their personal playground and bank account. Now that there is an opposition to the corruption, and that opposition gets stronger every day, even winning a majority on the council, that's a significant victory not just for me, but for all of the honest folks in this town. If you do not feel like a winner in this, it tells me you are on the side of corruption. There's a mayoral campaign coming up next year, and I look forward to helping in the effort to finish the job of house cleaning. It's not about hate, as I hate no one. There are certain types of behavior I hate, and when that behavior steers public service into the gutter, I'll do something about it. So I had some broken windows, threats, etc., but you know what? I'm still here...

As to you Orange Cove Man, I've not been scurred a day in my life, especially by the likes of certain low lifes who talk big, but shrink away when confronted. Does that hit home? When you use the term pathetic, bear in mind it refers to a hopelessness that inspires pity upon a person or situation doomed to fail miserably. Such is the case for the future of the Lopez family influence upon our city. I'm certain it will end in arrests and jail time as honest people finally come forward and testify about certain things that have been hidden through threat and intimidation. That day is coming, can you feel it?

If you were to go back to the founding of this country, you'd find that most of the people were not allowed to vote. Only male land owners could vote. Why? Because the landowners were the owners of the country. So they had the right of self-determination, and their votes counted greatly. The male head of the family voted for his entire family, his wife, kids, etc., whoever was in his care, living on his land.

So truly ignorant folks were basically restricted from voting due to the fact they had not achieved success to the point of owning land.

Abe Lincoln opened the door to non-landowners having a vote, and that began a slide into what we have today, a manipulation of the non-landowning populace to vote for someone who promises them goodies, taking from those who have achieved and giving to those who have not, rather than voting for what is good for a great nation.

Yes, I'd actually like to go back to the premise of landowners, male or female, whoever the landowner(s) are, and weed out the ignorant, opportunists and abusers of our voting rights and political system.

Not to say it was right, but it was there. Our country shed blood to free the slave. Great country. Too bad some treat it with such disdain.

I think what he meant was slaves really did not have rights at the time; which you were explaining how only land owners were able to vote at one time now everyone has that right. Do you agree?
