Actually Soquel High opened in in fall of 1961 or 62. We went to Santa Cruz High for our first two years.

It just goes to show you that the Class of '57 was the greatest class in the school's history. You can't argue with the fact that we are keeping the spirit alive. CM

It's true, it was a different time and place then. Santa Cruz was a real town with real people doing real things. You went downtown to shop for things you actually needed. Safely too!
Santa Cruz High School's class of 1962 was the last one, and the biggest with over 600 graduates, when SCHS was the only public high school in town. We got bussed in from Pleasure Point and farther every day. Mission Hill and Branciforte Junior High Schools went through the ninth grade or you went right into SCHS as a freshman, depending on where you lived. There was Holy Cross, of course and San Lorenzo Valley and the far distant Watsonville High. The three lane road of death kept Watsonville and Santa Cruz apart. Soquel High opened in the fall of '62 , as did the present campus of Cabrillo College. Soquel took some of the best teachers from SCHS. Anyone else remember Mrs. Ruth Warren? The best! It was a great time and a great place to be. It still is. |

The fact of the matter is that the first graduating class from Soquel High was the 1962 class, so they would have started in the fall of 1961

So Jim, were you there? Or do you just need to argue? The fact of the matter, hackneyed an expression as it may be is this: from Soquel High's own website.
"Soquel High School (SHS) was established in 1962 to serve the outlying areas of the Santa Cruz City Schools District (SCCS). " |

I was there, and sang the "Soquel Knights our hats are off to you" song with gusto. Those were great times. Mr. Buffon came along from SC high, and he was one of my favorite teachers.

Leave it to the new senile to mislead with their lead, and pander to the "Let's Get Freaky Halloween" GBTG/crowd! I thought is was about yet another prop 8 whinefest. Any other person willing to support a new athletic field at Santa Cruz High School (The Real Lead) would be turned off waay before reading the second paragraph. Get a real editor.:)
