Calif. clerks: When does gay-marriage ban begin?

I think it started when the Lord created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. But that point of view is obviously so out of touch with what our world needs now apparently. So I guess if it makes you feel good, go for it. But when you leave and make your way to the Lord, he remembers.

orgs like Campaign for Children & Families, Liberty Counsel, Pacific Justice have a dubious tax exempt status IMO. They are listed as charitable orgs with 50% taxable deductions allowed from donors but they exist mainly to influence the political process. Liberty Counsel (Florida) calls itself a ministry and religious liberty activists.The IRS is stepping up enforcement but we need more restrictions on these orgs, some out of state, who accept huge donations and pay their staffs very well. They organise church activism and spread voter disinformation. Go to Campaign for Children and families (saveCalifornia.org ) and read the message of Mr Thomasson, he is a certified nutbag!

Wonder what the heterosexuals are going to do when they outlaw divorce. It is very possible since it was written into prop 8 to prohbit divorce. But then most who voted yes for prop 8 just thought they were banning gay marriage. Well it could come back to bite them in their butts. Only time will tell. Then wonder who they are going to like that being taken away from them

By the way, as a Christian Theist I ctually agree with blogger above and believe we wave too many sin flags. Yes, what indeed is the conservative party doing about poverty, pride, hate, compassion, wars, etc......... Perhaps the 'popular' church isn't in he position to wave sin flags any more. We ought to love a bit more and encourage change (any destructive behavior) by love and example.

Although I believe in Christianity, I see this as a civil issue, not a religious issue.

However, just to play Devil's Advocate (no pun intended), let's say that it *should* be seen as a religious issue. Would that mean that marriage between men should be banned, but that marriage between women should be allowed (as the Bible prohibits man lying with mam, but not woman lying with woman)?

The Bible prohibits both. It prohibits homosexuality, and homosexual acts, both.

Actually, the word homosexual was coined in 1895.
So, your assertion that homosexual and homosexuality being the Bible is completely false.
That was a recent addition inserted by people with an axe to grind against homosexuals.

Interestingly enough, while most so-called christians rail against homosexuals, their Jewish brethern for the most part do not. The Jews use the old testament, or the Torah as their book, and they don't use the passages that the christians refer to in attacking homosexuality.

But, the New Testament, which is the part of the Bible the christians SHOULD be concerned about contains absolutely NO references to homosexuals or homosexuality by Jesus or any of the saints or disciples. What is up with that?

Jesus, does however repeatedly attack the rich, the pious, and the judgmental for their behavior, but you hear nary a peep from these "christians" about any of those groups of people. No, they only attack the homosexual and try to legislate against them, the same as they used to use the Bible to control the slave and women.

Really, the pattern is as contemptable as it is obvious. The Bible has been used for centuries by these people that claim to be chritians, but that simply use the Bible and the religious organization to keep the majority in power ruling, and their subordinates in society under control. The Bible has been used by these people to condone some of the most heinous prejudices in history.

No, these people attack homosexuals not because they are sinful or evil or a threat, but because these groups have been traditionally marginalized. They are bullies, in plain english. And their arguments and disdain for homosexuals is deeply rooted in personal prejudice, not ratonal thought or validity.

It is obvious that they are attempting to hold onto the homosexual as the boogey man to be feared and hated, because they can no longer blame blacks or women for their problems. Eventually, these so-called christians are going to run out of other people to blame, and will have to confront their true enemy - themselves.

It is by no accident that the majority backing these intiatives are rooted in the conservative religious affiliations. As long as you fear someone else, you can use that to rally the troops around you, and to avoid looking at your own skelatons in the closet.

This latest talking point (that the relatively recent coinage of the word "homosexual" must mean, therefore, that the Bible never condemns homosexual activity) is just flat-out false. The Hebrew and Greek languages each have several words and terms to describe the practice (you can look them up fairly easily). In the cultures where Torah, Talmud, and New Testament were written, homosexual behavior was widespread and widely tolerated. Indeed, it was this tolerance that was repeatedly cited as a reason for God's impending judgement.

Both Hebrew and Greek, like most other languages (including English, until a few decades ago) uses the masculine article when both genders are addressed-- remember in grade school English class when they asked inane questions like "Did everyone do his homework?" Use of the feminine article was usually exclusive to women, but use of the masculine article was not exclusive to men.

Gosh, I can't wait to get to hell. I already have a nice 2 bedroom apartment lined up. It overlooks the lake of fire. All utilities are included in the rent, and a parking space to boot! I only have to wait about 40 years and I'll be living the life:-D

In any case, most young people don't care anymore, so it's only a matter time.

I don't thing 'discriminate' and 'bigot' are accurate descriptions of people's motivations in voting against the ban. I wonder how many gays can get past their hate and understand that opponents of gay marriage have a variety of concerns that are thoughtful and warrant discussion?

I will say this--if gays want to win in the democratic arena, they would be better served in selling doubters on their ideas rather than insulting them. Can't always count on liberal judges to force people to follow your agenda.
