Neighbors in Mass. mostly don't even wave to each other, people don't really know each other in neighborhoods here, so, it's not a surprise the neighbors are 'shocked.'

This is not the friendliest state in the country, maybe the most liberal, but not the friendliest.

You got that right! When I moved here from VA a little over 5 years ago, I thought It would be just as friendly, The neighbors have been nothing but rude, one couple has been very kind and we visit each other and help each other, but if the other neighbor's house was on fire, I wouldn't even take the time to call the fire department and I would run over their pets every chance I get!

So, you either fit right in now, fully converted into the type of person you criticize, OR, you're a simple hypocrite.

I say both.

People are'nt REQUIRED to be friendly. This is a liberal bastion here, therefore, after being screwed time and time again by everyone from the local government all they way up to the Prime Minister himself, folks are weary of others. Reach out some more. You will find an intelligence level here higher than any you've ever known.

It actually pays to be skeptical of others at first. What did you expect.... wives coming over with fresh baked goods, welcoming you to the neighborhood? This isn't Hollyweird.

Chill out, and don't let your house catch on fire. Nobody will come to your aid, apparently.

You are right. We are not required to be friendly, but what does it "cost" you to be friendly...nothing but time. While living in VA and PA yes we visited people on their move in day to help if need be and to offer our friendship. What does that cost. I didn't expect that, but I did expect a sense of community. If you think being friendly and creating a sense of community is weird, then I want to be weird any day because.

BTW, if my house burns down, maybe it will catch the woods on fire and burn their houses down as well, then I'll move...

I guess you'll be less skeptical friendly in your second life?

The other day while taking a walk down my street here in Marlborough, I decided to take a dump on my neighbors lawan. It was so great, the best dump I have had in years!

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Taurus

Someone isn't mucking about today, and if they're annoyed about something they'll come right out with it. This means you could be on the receiving end of some zingers, but equally it means that you'll be giving as good as you get. Now, although it will be very tempting to let off steam by giving someone an earful, aren't there better directions in which to channel your energy?
