The Chargers and their fans should still hold their heads high. Even as the defense remains somewhat suspect and Cromartie needs tackle-education, take away the 14 points Denver was given by the Refs and you see the real game San Diego played in Denvers hostile environment! The defense did step up in the second half and Rivers (the awesome one) and the offense outplayed Denver, period! Have faith, they just might win the rest of them!

Should we be holding our breaths?.... "The league on Monday said it will look into changing the inadvertent whistle rule after the season following the Broncos’ controversial 39-38 victory over the Chargers on Sunday." http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news...

When the confusion set in and Ed had to come back over and state that, it was a fumble but the ball was blown dead, he had ticked off all over his face. That ticked off was because Ed screwed it up for us and he knew it! Before the replay I was yelling because during the play you could see Ed come into the picture (behind the QB) swinging his arms in dead ball fashion meaning he didn't see the fumble and screwed up! Before the replay was even shown on TV I was explaining to my dad why we lost the ball.

NEW YORK -- Ed Hochuli's acknowledgement that he erred on a call late in Sunday's San Diego-Denver game will mean lower grades for one of the NFL's highest profile referees.

Broncos QB Jay Cutler's fumble in the fourth quarter was initially called an incomplete pass by referee Ed Hochuli.

"Officials are held accountable for their calls. They are graded on every play of every game," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. "Ed has been an outstanding official for many years, but he will be marked down for this call. Under our evaluation system, an official's grades impact his status for potentially working the playoffs and ultimately whether or not he is retained."

The play occurred with the Broncos at the Chargers 1-yard-line in the final minute. Denver quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass, the ball slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into the arms of San Diego linebacker Tim Dobbins.

Hochuli ruled it an incomplete pass. Replay ruled it a fumble, but it was spotted at the 10-yard line, where the ball hit the ground, and given to Denver because the rules did not permit possession to be awarded to San Diego because the whistle had blown.

Denver went on to score, convert a two-point conversion and win 39-38.

Speaking of lipstick, how does it feel to get all dreesed up only to have your @$$es kicked 10 straight times by Da Bolts? You haven't beat us since my youngest was born. In her almost 4 years of life see has never heard the phrase *The Raiders beat the Chargers*, hell not even in the womb did she hear it!
LT not Sproles but LT can get 200yds and 3 TD's in a wheelchair against you! SPROLES on the back of his jersey, get used to it because thats all you're gonna see come game time.

This kind of play, which the NFL had been wrestling with for years is a no-brainer. The trajectory of the ball, when untouched by a defender, should always dictate if it's considered a Pass or fumble. It is impossible to PASS the ball backwards. That is called a lateral. All the ref has to do is look at the trajectory and that in and of it self, barring being touched by another player, should be enough to come to a competent conclusion. Another lesson for the NFL to consider is to tell the refs, "If it looks like a weird play, Don't blow the whistle until possession is established." Meaning that if the play is out of the norm, possible fumble, int., etc. Make sure you allow for possession so that the play may be reviewed. Rocket science is not what football should be compared too.

OK, I'll give you a blown call by the refs (they do happen by the way..live with it). But how come you could stop the Broncos from getting into the end zone? I wouldn't call them "free" points..because a) Cutler was in a better position to knock the ball out of bounds..and had Hochuli not blown the whistle, Cutler would have easily knocked it out of bounds. Consequently we would have started from the 12 yard line. So, I'll concede a 2-yard advantage and b) we still had to convert a 10 yard touchdown AND a 2-pt conversion. How come SD didn't stop that?
Get pissed at Hochuli if you want, but you lost that game fair and square no matter how you try to justify it.

I'm not a Charger fan, nor did I want the Chargers to win that game. Even I though, have to admit they got screwed to the max. Yea, they did score after the free gift the ref gave them, and yea they did get the two point conversion to win it.
But let me ask you this: How many PRO teams can go around giving two plays for one and win to many of those battles? If a team your playing has to say, fumble twice on a series to award you the ball, how often would any team come away with a turnover. 2nd chances are monumental in the NFL, not just because they alter the outcome of the game but because they can effect both teams psychologicly. Let alone the timing of the turnover, which in this case would have ended the game.
I saw the play as well. It looked to me like the red blew the whistle once he saw the defender would get there first. Not saying he blew it because of that, but that's what it looked like. The QB would not have gotten first shot at that ball, since the ref waived his arms to end the play while the defender was closing in on the ball. The QB never let up going after the ball until the defender touched it.
