keep him big, use him as our run stuffer on first and second down.

I dub thee Marcus "Pork Chop" Harrison!!
Jeez, Pork Chop, why not tell the truth and say you were a pig in the off-season? No shame in that! I was always expecting Chris Williams to earn the "Pork Chop" moniker, what with back surgery. Oh well, GO BEARS!! |

14 pounds LOL

THERE'S dedication! There's a guy who's focused. With the majority of NFL players, whose families I suspect live off them, I have to guess that being a big fat, un-dedicated slob becomes a "serious family issue." As in, what is the family going to do for money if he can't play?
Yeah, I guess man up -- and hit the salad bar. I've seen the Bears training camp food service, cattle could graze their salad bar! |

I guess the season snuck up on him. He's talking about missing "only" a week or so. Of camp? Are you kidding me?
What a lard-a#%. One would think he should be able to work that weight off quickly, assuming he wants to. |
|||
|
Not good news. The competition at D-line is going to be fierce this year; this might set him back to the practice squad. He can't afford to sit out any camp!
|

323 is not bad weight for an NFL tackle. He needs to be in camp at this time. Remember Keith Traylor and that other big guy can't remember him they were both 350 + and they kept olineman off Urlacher and he was able to do his thing.

My how times have changed. Training camp used to be for getting into shape as well as getting ready for the season.
Now you had better be in shape every second of your life or you may be cut. I hope the Bears have the best season in their long, savage history. |

Yeah, training camp used to be for getting in shape, but that was back when guys had jobs in the off-season because they didn't make enough money for the whole year. Come on, with the coin these guys get, is there any valid excuse for being out of shape? A lot of people have family issues, but they still go to work and get their jobs done. Because they have to. Marvin sounds a little on the immature side.
One of the biggest weaknesses on this team is the lack of dominance from the middle of the D-line. Tommy Harris has the talent to dominate, but he doesn't show up every down. The rest of them are marginal NFL starters, at best. |
||||
I guess it depends on the scheme. Teams have definitely had success with the fat guys in the middle, ala Traylor & Washington, and Williams Wall. I guess we're supposed to have faster guys that get to the QB--problem has been, of course, that they haven't been getting to the QB. Which made me surprised the Bears ranked as highly as they did against the run last year. But then I thought back to those games: the D was so easy to tear apart from the air, teams were like, why bother doing anything else? |

Lovie is way too concerned about weight and should concentrate on their performance. Besides, I believe our undersized DTs are the reason why da bears can't collapse da pocket - which is the real reason our pass rush is so poor. Our DEs have been able to get around the OTs but the opposing QBs just step up into the pocket to buy extra time.
I understand the importance of speed - but speedy DTs aren't worth much if they are just being pushed around. |

"Harrison was limited during organized team activities after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee May 1. He said that did not contribute to his weight gain."
Excellent bad knee, over weight, did not participate, strong start to the season. Know let's see how long until Tommy's out with another injury, Ulach's back or groin starts to hurt, Brown gets injured, opps! Never fear Lovie is in charge this year, we have a new coach who brought his family along for a job and Bobby is still coaching but damoted. This will be steller! |
||||
and fat ones with bad knees are? |

"I shouldn't be out that long ... just a week or so," he said. "I don't want to let my team down."
i wish i could lose 14lbs in one week |

More of that play light B.S. from Lovie, a run stuffer who can play the run should be big and command a double-team to make Harris more effective. This lightweight crap has played out in St.Louis. Tampa and Indy HEY LOVIE CUT IT OUT.
|
||||
Another loud-mouthed, know-nothing heard from. This light-weight B.S. from Lovie he is the only Tampa disciple still playing skinny. His mentor Dungy when with a large tackle in his last season. These NFL lineman are too large and agile for this crap you need a run stuffer to keep guards off you linebackers. Guys like you should be seen and not heard. |
||||
AMEN, AMEN |
||||
|
I'd like to hear what the family problems were before making a judgement.
But he should have talked to the team about his weight a few weeks earlier. |
