Here's a way to appease Jones and Jets

Full story: Newsday

From Bob Glauber's NFL Insider blog. For more of Glauber's insight, visit: newsday.com/nflblog I believe Thomas Jones should get more than $900,000. I realize that is not a popular sentiment among many Jets fans who believe that Jones should be beholden to the four-year, $20- million contract he signed before the 2007 season - the one that already ...

How about this for Jones? Have a big year, show your value and thus get your money, from the Jets or elsewhere. The deal was front loaded on purpose. He already got his money. I don't see Jones as something special the Jets desperately need to hold on to. He's not part of the future of this team, just a low cost part of the present. I rather give any running back excess budget to Leon Washington. He's a special player whose special teams play helps with overall field position. He's young, and he's never had his "payday". Jones did. If he wants another one, perform.

By the same "logic", Jones should return some of the signing bonus he received in 2007, and the Jets can pay it back to him in salary for this year. That would make his 2007 pay AND his 2009 pay more in-line with his production for both years.

Is this really the best thing you can come up with to write about?? The same nonsense about Jones?? No wonder Newsday is going under, this is really quite pathetic. I think its time for some new ideas or new blood.

The Jets have met the obligations agreed upon in the contract so why hasn't Jones. He had one good season and thinks he should be annointed the second coming of John Riggins. Is he giving money back for the first two seasons ?
